They sell eddoe, a type of root vegetable, in my local supermarket. I think it's known as egyptian cauliflower too or something . . . so probably related to cauliflower. Does anyone know if it'd be safe to feed the peelings of it to the guinea pigs? In small amounts.

I think it probably would be, but just wondering if anyone knows for sure cos I can't find it on any lists or by doing a google search. Thanks :)

Ok thanks :) I did read it was a kind of taro but had no idea what that was :))

If you google it is says they are an alternative to potatoes/ yam and sweet potatoes and they need careful cooking not something I would give to my girls.

I've found something that says that the raw plant is toxic, like potato peelings I assume...It sounds like they shouldn't have it to me...

Quote: "Uses. Taro and eddoe: Taro's primary use is the consumption of its edible corm and leaves. In its raw form, the plant is toxic due to the presence of calcium oxalate, and the presence of needle-shaped raphides in the plant cells. However, the toxin can be destroyed and the tuber rendered palatable by cooking, or by steeping in cold water overnight."

Hope this helps ;)

Thanks guys :)

I definitely won't give them any so.

Although I thought raw sweet potatoes were fine for piggies? I give them the peelings. My mom even will eat a few raw pieces though, but I only would have it fully cooked myself!
