I had them diagnosied on thursday after having a scan a calcified 6 cm and a 4cm got Drs on 27th to discuss what they are going to do, too old for op as i'm 45 and nearing menopause anyone else had them or know of them?

I've got three, they caused me huge problems when pregnant, loads of pain and almost housebound, couldn't walk, on morphine etc. Now I just get heavy periods and don't really know I have them except I get anaemic.

As I understand you can either have them removed - sometimes you can have them done via keyhole surgery but mine were too big for that, or you can have drugs to reduce them. I think there's a new procedure where they cut off the blood supply to them so they shrink. Or you can wait for the menopause, as they're supposed to shrink then. That's what I'm doing as I didn't really want major surgery again after a caesarian and decided not to have another baby due to the problems they'd caused.

think I'll be going the drug route as well, mine occasionally feel like a tennis ball in the pit of my tum but apart from heavy periods thats all they cause no real pain so far, I dont fancy an op anyway , you pick up other things in hospital and the way my health goes it would be just my luck, they seem quite common now dont they?

They shrink at menopause anyway so if you can hang on until then they should go :) I must be one of the few women looking forward to my menopause ;D

I'm getting really heavy periods now,and am 42,maybe that could be my prob ?,think you r best to avoid any necessary ops......keep smiling :)

My mum was only 32 so I've been expecting it, but I'm now 38 with no signs whatsoever, still regular as clockwork ::)
