I found poor Anya when I checked the animal room this morning to see how everyone was

She’s slumped on her side and is gasping every so often,
I know she’s dying? This is exactly what happened with Baby before she passed, I’m just glad I found her
I’ve got her against the skin on my chest and covered with my dressing gown fabric.

I know she’s nearly gone at this point, and there is nothing a vet can do bar PTS but i dont think she could handle the stress of that right now and it might make this whole process more stressful for her then it is now.
Is it kinder to let her pass in the arms of the person who loves her, comfortable and warm?
I think perhaps so..

Hi!

HUGS

I am very sorry; it is always a gutting experience!

Please see a vet asap for pts if Anya is in pain or distress at any point. Multiple organ failure is a complex and rather physical process that can be fairly smooth, but by far not always. It very much depends on the individual health/strength of the organs and in which order they break down.
Please put Anya's needs before your own desires if this process is turning nasty. You have to play this by ear and not have any preconceptions as it is different each time. The process of dying can also enormously vary in length and last over several days - another reason you may need to consider pts/euthanasia if it is running on for more than a few hours.

Please also consider the companions - are they keeping their distance or not? In the latter case, please leave Anya with them in the cage and allow them to monitor the process; it is part of their taking leave/grieving process, too. If they are ignoring Anya, then they have already taken their leave.

Keep her warm, but not hot and as comfy as you can. If in any doubt, please speak to your vet.

Sorry to hear this. Anya is with you that's great. Keep her warm and as above let the other piggies see and smell her at as you think is her passing.
Be brave for her you can cry after. send her away with lots beautiful words and tales about what a beautiful world she's going to.
Be Brave xx

Big hugs to you. I hope Anya's passing is peaceful, she will know she is loved and safe with you. x

The best thing you can do while an animal is dying, is to just hold them, talk to them, and let them know everything is going to be okay, which is exactly what your doing. bless little Anya

So sorry to hear this, hope little Anya has a peaceful passing x

I'm so sorry. :( The last two pigs we lost (and the last hamster we lost too) passed in our arms. I know it's hard. All I can say is give her your love and comfort, and see a vet if it is dragging on for hours or if she appears to be distressed or in pain. ((HUGS.))

I just lost my Lucy (the white one in the photo), so I know just how you feel. Lucy was nearly 6, so her time with me was coming to an end. I took her to the vet, who gave me Baytril but I could tell from his attitude that he knew she was about to die. She died at home, in the place she was familiar with, with me at her side. (she hated being held).
Now I have to replace her as I have a young one who needs a companion.
