My boy has really bad dry skin and i have to apply coconut oil twice a week because of it. Does any one elses skinny pig suffer with dry skin this bad? I'm unsure weather to take him to the vets or not. Any information would be appreciated. Thank you

Sorry I can't really help as I have never had any dry skin problems with Dora or Ginger. In fact Dora has an over active grease gland and we have to bath her occasionally as the gets very dirty (dust sticks to her greasy skin).

Flutterby has had a number of skinny pigs so she may have come across this problem.

If in any real doubt I would see the vet in case it is some sort of fungal infection which skinny pigs are prone to getting.

Is it definitely just dry skin or another problem/ I know my skinnies get dusty from time to time and require a bath. Is it something he's always had or something that had started recently? If so it may be worth a vet check to rule out anything like mites or fungal.

Its something hes always had. When i had him neutered the vets were concerned ans treated him for mite but it doesnt seem to bother him. He doesnt itch alot or anything. I think it annoys me more lol hes pink so his dry skin really shows and hes not fond of being picked up so when i have to put on the coconut oil on its a big ordeal lol

I'd still advise a vet check to make sure nothing else is going on, if it is just dry skin then E45 cream is really effective and doesn't clog their pores which in turn can cause skin problems.

Sorry I have no experience of this directly as Tallulah has gorgeous skin, if anything she feels quite naturally greasy! I would definitely ask the vet first, if it is just dry skin then Gorgeous Guineas sell a skinny pig specific moisturiser, I've never needed to use it but their other products are very good.
