I discovered a small nick on mintys head last week which is being treated and I keep an eye on it too but I was stumped to where it had come from - or rather whom.

Initially I wondered if her and crystal had been in a dissagrement but I saw no evidence of either of them having been aggressive towards each other or any of the other piggies, I wondered if I was going to have problems but having never seen any aggression between any of the gang I thought I would wait and see if things got worse. Then on sunday bringing them in from the run minty had a small cut on her ear - again this is being looked after but is very small. I still havent seen any agressive tendancies by any of them, the only pig who is posturing is flash when food is put in or I move them in or out of the run.

I watch them often to see how their relationship is, they are very happy with each other, I never see chasing or anything other than popcorning and eating together, they seem a completely happy group. I did notice that yesterday crystal was in her fav corner munching on some broccilli when flash came beside her munching on something he had grabbed and she wanted to get past but he was in her way, he turned his head (no teeth showing or fighting) and she had to push the fabric tunnel aside to give him space so she could get past, my OH also said he thinks that flash might be the cause of mintys "wounds" as the girls respect him and he suggested what I was thinking.

So I wondered that although 99% of the time the group is happy, is it plausable that flash has nipped minty - not in a nasty way, but he has basically thrown his weight about and accidently caught her. Either he has got a bit ammerous towards her or he caught her by accident when he was bossing about.

I have to say I have been a bit too scared to post this incase you thought that they were fighting - I have seen absolutely no evidence ever, or that my group were suffering - she is healing well and is under vet treatment. I think the world of my gang and if I had any suspicions that all was not well then I would be removing the agressor, but then I have seen no evidence of the aggressor either. It might even be fudge dominating her mother as she grows or minty may have even caught herself on the chicken wire that used to be around the base of the metal run (as fudge was too small originally and could get through the bars, now removed as fudge is too big to get through the bars).

The simple answer is I havent a clue how she got injured (such a bad mum 8...:red ) and I still see no reason or cause for the small cuts. Any clues as to what it could be?

is she a cuddly pig? My bumble occasionally gets a nip on the back of the neck but then she's overly cuddly with bea and bea just isn't all that cuddly so I think its when she gets a bit too much for bea who then strikes out. I'm hoping that on introducing Peter and moving them to their C&C cage it won't happen at all

One of my piggie's kicked the other and the nail caught her tear duct bit and her eye filled with blood I was soo worried but she was absolutely fine, could it be he's been kicked and caught by a sharp nail?

not that I have seen, they all seem very independant and like their own space - hence why the bedroom has beds for each pig, plus extras just outside, although I have seen her lying next to flash outside in the run often.

You have no idea how much better that made me feel to read you have a pig that has occasional nips, I have felt so bad for her and its due to something I hadnt noticed or something and its been stressing me out since I found the first one (and I have been checking them all top to toe every day thoughtly since). Without sounding like a drama queen I havent been emotionally coping since both grandparents were in hospital, then of course nan died last week and I am just about holding it together - apart from being a complete airhead at work where I have lost the plot (but that a whole different story @) ) I just feel such a let down on the gang because I dont know why or how one got hurt and still dont know, I was hoping its just something that can happen and its nothing too big a deal, then I can set my mind at rest with her.

Again thanks for the suggestion, I trimmed the back claws of all of them 3 weeks ago but they are pointy again already, it is possible as they jump about a lot in the run - today as I cleaned out the hutch I head flash hit the wooden sides twice rolleyes

I think sometimes it does happen unfortunately, I have been watching bumble and bea closely and 99% of the time they are fine. But we've had both out on our laps and bumble insisted on shoving her head under bea's tummy... she got a couple of kicks for it but no cuts luckily... we do have a very funny picture from it as well which I must remember to upload later :))

well shock horror I have a new suggestion to the cause of mintys war wounds.

I was watching them out the bedroom window in the run (checking for cats really) when I spotted a magpie hopping close up to the run, crystal and minty were both looking at this bird and minty goes up close to the sides, I rapped on the window to no avail and saw the blooming bird peck minty on the head mallethead I checked her over and she is fine btw, I opened the window after my rapping failed and the bird did fly off, but this might be the cause.

Think I prefur the annoying cats in the garden now mallethead I think a square run would be better for them if this is going to keep happening - stupid minty, fancy getting closer to something that is going to hurt you :{ In the mean time I will have to cover the bottom parts of the sides so the birds cant reach the piggies through the wire.

Get a tall pole/stick cable tied to you run corner or near to the run and put a plastic bag on the top or old cds my mum uses this when reseeding her grass to scare birds off. Poor minty there's always water gun's lol

bless her! stupid magpie :( we have magpies round our garden so will be keeping a close eye out in future

I will do this, thanks. I am working for the next few days so she is safe in the hutch - if it was the magpie which I am thinking it is more likely the cause having seen the horrid bird have a go for her.
