Sorry if this the wrong section for what it is or whatever anyway...

My guinea pig is around 4 years old and He has had babies with its partner and around 2 years ago its partner died and to a point now he is eating ok drinking and urinating he has recently had Diarrhoea i think he may have past that over but he doesn't seem to be his normal self my mother suggested it be because he is lonely he still is up to his normal habits at chewing the cages bars his sweek seems a bit toned down is it just old age or what?

I dont think its down to old age, as I have a pig that is 6 years old just over and she doesnt appear down and her wheek is still loud!

I think maybe a vet appt might be wise, if he is just under the weather he may have an underlying cold/bug that some anitibiotics might sort out, as you say he is still eating and drinking etc are his poops back to normal now?

does he have plenty opf toys/a teddy to play with and keep him occupied?

No all he has now is since diarrhoea is Hay a bowl of guinea pig food premium whatever it is and water

I'm ashamed to say I haven't spent much time with it either

do you give him fresh veg?

I'm gussing he is probably very bored if he is getting no interaction from you, and has no toys.. even a toilet roll tube filled with hay is a toy :)

does he live inside or out?

My mother gave me a load of fresh vegetables she took them out due to his Diarrhoea and he lives inside and out depending on the weather
he isn't a clever guinea pig he is scared of a lot of things but is slowly building up confidence

ok, he needs fresh veg on a daily basis to keep his vit C up - unless he has diorhea.. if the diorhea has stopped you can start giving him little bits of veg again as long as the poop stays normal, Personally id make sure he has a hidey hold (a cardboard box will do just fine) so he has somewhere to hide because at 4 years old he should be well interacted and not v scared if he's living inside for a mojrity of the year, maybe if you start giving him a little cuddle everyday too that will help him perk up.. he also needs toys to keep his brain stimulated, and not make him unhappy just satin a cage the chubes dont cost more that £2.50 and a willow ball for him to chew, like i said before a toilet tube roll makes a good toy filled with hay. i give mine teddies and a blanket too to snuggle up in/hide under they are cheap toys..

what veg do you give him, this could be the cause of the diorhea

First of all id see a vet to sort out this problem with diahreah as it can be fatal - It may be due to bad fruit or vegetables or something wrong with his digestive system :(

If hes ok after hes been treated id get him another friend but not a sow as they will breed - This is a rescue forum O0

He has had a small blue hide out thing which i bought from the pet shop sorry i forgot to mention that

My mum has gaven him celery carrots and cucumbers from what i can recall I'm going to ask her If we can go to the vets just for a basic check and if everything is ok than it probably be to a point of where he is bored

I could give him to the local windmill they have like a Teletubies thing where there are a few guinea pigs there he might like it more

ok, they can have a big variety of veg inc cabbages, peppers, brocolli, cucumber, celery, grass, dandelions, baby corn, mangetout, garden peas in pods, parsley, bananna (not too often) apple (not too often) and lots of other if you look in the food section there is a shopping list of what they can have :)

id deffo take him to the vet for a check and go from there, if you need anymore help please feel free to post on here, were very friendly :)

Its starting to Improve so i think I might be let of without going to the vets I think ill have to buy it some toys a new mate or end up giving it away to the windmill I'm gonna do the toilet tube with hay thats a class idea :) What other toys should I get something to take him of chewing the cage

if you can get hold of a brown paper bag or an envelope and cut the glue bit off stuff those with hay/treats they make good toys too, they love cardboard boxes, hang an old towel in the cage for him to play under..

those willow balls are great i have 3 and stuff them with different treats :)

I agree the willow balls are totally fabbo! they're cheap enough to begin with and you can continue to stuff them with piggie's favourites for ages. I bought the huge one - think it says 3 cm on the website and the smaller ones are 2cm - the difference is massive! Also love the corn on the cob and carrot toys - the carrot has lasted about 2 months already (but he has a little chew on it every day!)

Well done to Pampered Piggies O0 And I really think their speed of service is brill too O0

i think they are 3in and 2in not cm lol ;)

and i brough both of them sizes and the difference really is huge :o i bought the ones you fill yourself for 60p and one with nettle in it for £1 :)

yeah willow balls are great :smitten: keep an eye on him, is he eating much? drinking? i still think a trip to the vets may be wise?
Good luck :smitten:
