Noticed Jamie’s nuggets hadn’t gone this morning which is very odd and then noticed very worrying poos (picture attached).
Got an emergency vet appointment and have been given:
Loxicom 0.5ml once a day (I asked for dog Metacam but only cat Metacam was authorised😕)
Fibreplex 1ml 3 times a day
Emeprid (gut stimulant) 0.7ml twice a day
Recovery feed and lots of syringes
At the vets he had a Metacam and gut stimulant injection.
Since being home (4:30pm) he’s had some pepper, tiny bits of hay and grass and around 4/5 ml of recovery feed.
He’s really not himself and it’s absolutely heartbreaking to see him like this. He really struggles when taking the critical care and then eventually stops chewing after around 0.6ml so I have to put him back in his cage to chill out and then he’ll chew again.
He looks to possibly have impaction and this was my suspicion when seeing this morning poos. Vet said his tummy was very soft so wasn’t worried. He hasn’t pooped since around midday.
Any tips/advice/guidance, absolutely anything would be appreciated! If it’s his time to go, that’s okay, I just don’t want him in any pain or discomfort.

Illness, Emergencies, Vets & Home care Guides

This link might help. I’m not experienced but I just wanted to say hello and offer support.
Poor boy and how worrying for you.
Keep doing what you’ve been advised and don’t give up ….I think poos are often 2 days behind so hopefully you’ll see an improvement tomorrow.
Someone will be along to offer more experienced advice. Good luck and keep going 🥰

As above, poo output is 1-2 days behind. So if he’s not done any poos that means he wasn’t eating enough 1-2 days back.

What did the vet think may be wrong with him? Looking at his poos, a couple of them have a mini pointy end. They also look a little squishy. I would consider taking him off fresh food (including grass) until at least 24 hours after they’re back to normal.

As he doesn’t appear to be eating much, you would be better off switching to weighing him once daily (beat in the morning before any topup etc) and see how his weight is doing. What you want is to maintain. Any continual downward trend will need to be investigated further.

You will also need to get a good amount of recovery food into him. 60ml in a 24 hour period is what you aim for when a piggy isn’t eating by itself. So some ml every two hours and one final feed late evening. Then start all over again early morning.

I hope that he starts to pick up and the meds help with whatever may be the problem.

Jamie passed away half an hour ago, snuggled in his favourite fleece in my arms❤️. I’m not sure what it was, but he was eating and behaving normal ever since this morning. Thank you all for your kind words and advice but sadly it is no longer needed. He will be popcorning his way over the rainbow bridge 🌈❤️

I’m so sorry to hear Jamie has passed over the bridge. Take care ❤️

I’m sorry that Jamie has gone to RB. You gave so much love and that’s all we can do for our piggies.
Take care of yourself.

Rest in peace my special little boy❤️🌈. Jamie has been laid to rest under some strawberry plants, one of his favourites! I am contented in the knowledge he died in no pain and was even popcorning on Friday!
Thank you everyone for your kind words🥰.

I’m so sorry Jamie faded away today, you really did do everything you could have done, sending big hugs x
Sleep tight little Jamie 🌈

I’m sorry you lost Jamie. It’s so sad and difficult that they can take a turn for the worst so quickly. Whatever you may think, you acted quickly and did your very best for him. What a lovely place to put him to rest.
Take good care of yourself.
