Hi, I'm looking for a good rescue shelter around the Manchester/ Stockport area, and (if possible) any young-ish guinea pigs available? We only have one guinea pig with us at the moment because her friend was recently put down :(, so we are looking for few young ones to live with her (she is about 9 months old now). Thanks!

It seems that one of the RSPCA's in Manchester gets a few piggies in too. I was searching a lot recently for a single sow or neutered boar for bereaved Daisy and loads kept coming up I think for Salford RSPCA

There's rescue locator at the top of the page, can you use that?

The Manchester area doesn't have a great option with rescues in the rescue locator...I'm in Rochdale and my closest is Millhaven, but that's in West Yorkshire.

I agree with @Lady Kelly and checking out the RSPCA might be your best bet. I just checked and apparently RSPCA Rochdale have guinea pigs available for adoption, including singles, not just pairs. But you would likely need to contact them to confirm.

Sorry, I should rephrase - the rescue locator we have has very few, if any, options for specifically the Manchester area. I'm in Greater Manchester and I have the same problem, my closest rescue according to the locator is in West Yorkshire.

Try the generic rspca website. You can search to rehome a pet and select guinea pigs, put in your area and it will bring up all options starting with the closest. I know not all RSPCA's are cavy savvy but they have a good home check and rehome policy and as far as I can see all the animals get checked by a vet before rehoming.

Thanks for all of your replies, we checked out a few RSPCA websites around us (Salford, Macclesfield etc) and it seems none of them really had what we were looking for. We looked at the Tameside rabbit and guinea pig rescue, and they had a lot of pigs up for adoption and good reviews so we called up and we're going there next Saturday :)

Would the Potteries Guinea Pig Rescue at Bromsgrove, Stoke be nearer than Milhaven x

I'm not sure if you mean me or not but I genuinely don't know, actually. Millhaven comes top of the list and the Potteries closer to the bottom, I always assumed it listed the closest first? My grasp of geography is shameful, English geography even more so, so distances manage to mean very little to me :P

I said Bromsgrove, should have said Kidsgrove. The Potteries may be quicker to get to because it's 37 miles, just over an hour. Milhaven is 44 miles, 1 1/4 hours. Those details are from the RAC route finder website. I suppose it depends whereabouts you are in Manchester, it's a big place so if you're in the south, Kidsgrove will definitely be quicker.
