I've done about a months worth of research about guinea pigs. I know that they need at the very least 8 square feet of cage and they need floor time but I cant quite find a good cage. Does anyone recommend a cage? Are there cages I should avoid?

You will get lots of great advice, but it will be more useful if we have a rough idea of where you live (country and state) are good enough.

Also how many guinea pigs will you have, males or females, and will they live inside or outside?

Opt for a C&C cage if you can and unless you have large pets (cats or dogs) - in which case you may want to look into either a large rabbit traditional cage or a lidded C&C cage.

I live in the Florida, USA and they will live inside but I'm not quite sure what gender I'm getting yet.

Definitely get a c&c cage if possible.
Definitely look at the cage size guide which has been linked. Two boars need a little more room than two females but even two females would ideally need a cage 5ft long (which is what a 4x2 c&c measures).

I have a Midwest Guinea Pig Cage for Penny and then I made a C & C cage for Cocoa. I find C & C cages more convenient since you can build them yourself plus they're not as expensive as regular cages! Definitely don't buy a pet store cage, I made that mistake with my first piggy

Do check dimensions if you were to go for a Midwest. The ones I’ve seen (there may be other types) are only 120cm which is the absolute smallest cage 2 guinea pigs should be kept in. They’re fine, don’t get me wrong, but bigger is always better. If you were to get two Male guinea pigs then a midwest would probably not be big enough. Ideally a 140cm cage is two girls and a 160cm minimum for two boys. Unless of course you connect more than one Midwest together.

I find C & C too flimsy, and I prefer proper cage tops. I've got two 150cm indoor rabbit cages for my guineas.

Right now I own a midwest cage and it's pretty good for the most part. My piggies really love it but I'm not satisfied since I like to spoil my animals so I'm getting in the process of building a 2×5 for my 2 females pigs. Even if you kept them in the midwest cage I'm sure they would be fine but it's even as well for a temporary option. Whatever you choose your guinea pigs will be happy :)

I switched to C&C following forum recommendations and wish I'd done so sooner. My piggies love the space and they're easy to keep clean.
I have a 5X2 cage and added a 2X4 extension when the herd increased from 3 - 4. I now have an L shaped cage.

If I had the space, I would get a C&C but sadly, my cage had to fit between a desk and a wall (otherwise they’d have to live outside) so I have a ferplast 120 double cage. Thankfully none of my piggies have ever had problems using the ramp after I modified it to make it safe and less steep

I have a Midwest Cage for my piggy, this is a suitable size for one guinea pig and maybe two depending... but the good thing is that Midwest cages can be connected to make a even larger and longer cage. Avoid cages with wire bottoms for these types can injure sensitive piggy feet.

Can't beat how adaptable a C&C is when you accidentally adopt extra piggies and need to add extra space! We bought a 5x2 C&C with a loft for 3 pigs but we'd adopted another 2 before they even got in it... so we got an extension... then we adopted a 6th pig... so we have a 5x2 C&C with two 3x2 extensions now :)
