Evening all,

As you can see by the title, I'm having a few problems with Ants. My C&C cage is in front of my patio doors, and today I have found Ants crawling in my piggies vet bed!

Sadley, their is no where else for me to put my cage, so that is not an option. So I desperatly need some advice on how to stop them coming ingrrrr

All ideas welcome x

i wonder if you get ant spray or gel and put round bottom of each leg to stop them crawling up when i use to get them in house 1 got a spray and run it across doors ants would not go over it and theres a clear gel but be careful if guinea pigs go near legs

Only trouble is, the cage is on the floor where they run around, so I need to know what would be safe for the toomallethead x

they have these things you can set out that the ants crawl into and they take the goo back to the colony and it is supposed to destroy the colony. I have used it for years and with my cats (I'm new to piggies), but I would make sure it is out of the area when/if the guinea pigs are out on the floor.

^ different variations of that

I had a similar problem last week, they were coming in the corner by the pigs cage so I moved the cage into the kitchen for a couple of days and sprayed the area with raid, carpet and doorframs and along the skirting... it took a day or two for the smell to go and once it had I brought the pigs back in

Raid is ace stuff! I havent seen any since!

I use Nippon liquid. It is like a sweet gel that the ants eat and take back to their colony. You can put a little blobs on 2p coins and then spread them around near the cage/door. It actually attracts the ants, so will hopefully keep them out of the cage

I like this because i can leave the coins on the floor all evening and night - when my 2year old son is in bed - but then i can put them up on a shelf in the day so he can't get them. Likewise, you could easily move them away from the piggies if they were out of their cage.

Unlike the sprays and powder - there is no problem with smell, so you wouldn't have to move the cage

Good luck !
Rach
