Hello, I apologize for my English. My guinea pig (female, 2 years old) has a problem with her teeth (molars). One of them has already dropped. The guinea pig has a swollen gum around another molar. He does not want to eat, he also refuses critical care for the first time. I have to force him a lot to eat something, turn his head away, defend himself with his front packs ...

My vet prescribes enrofloxacin (the guinea pig has 750 grams - and it should get 12.5 milligrams twice a day). Not much has helped yet.

But another renowned rodent (teeth) specialist in the Czech Republic (even known throughout the whole of Europe, who is also going to lecture in Germany) prescribed a combination of two antibiotics - enrofloxacin and metronidazole (flagyl). Flagyl helps the guinea pig with chronic diarrhea and is also used for inflammation of the bones, teeth and gums.

My question is then: Has anyone ever met with a combination of 2 antibiotics?
My guinea pig should get: twice a day 12.5 mg Enrofloxacin + twice a day 12 mg Metronidazole (flagyl).

Hi and welcome

Antibiotics can be used in combination. A UK vet uses a combination of zithromax and marbocyl for really bad abscess, including dental abscesses, which can be very painful. Has your vet checked whether there is a dental root abscess behind the swelling? Has your piggy got a painkiller?

Please make sure that you support the guts with probiotics, as between the pain of the inflamed/abscesses gums and the antibiotics (which can diminish/kill the appetite and cause tummy upsets) they are having a rought time too. The flagyl is hopefully helping with that.

@furryfriends (TEAS)

X-ray showed no inflammation of the root. Only swollen gum. However, one tooth (molar) was surgically removed 2 months ago. He began to decay completely and his root was inflamed.

Today, she received an injection to promote bowel movement and analgesic injection. She receives 0.2 ml loxicom (1.5 mg / 1 ml) twice daily. AND 60 ml RODICARE INSTANT (instant powder as food). Further - 50 mg vitamin C, water, probiotic water (combination of BIO LAPIS - Sacharomyces, electrolytes + PROFESSIONAL - enterococcus faecium + PRORABBIT - lactobacillus etc.). I'm also giving her poops (what they eat) from other guinea pigs.

During the day she has diarrhea, a few hours later she has a small hard dry poops and a lot of mucus (occasionally little blood). It changes during the day. And now I have to give her two antibiotics. I'm afraid.
