Another vet bed question

This indoor vet bed stuff is very new to me - when I had guinea pigs years ago it was outside hutch, wood shavings and hay. I'm loving it though and at the moment I'm using the (well washed) vet bed I had for the dogs which has a very stiff back.

I'd like to get some more and have seen some on ebay which has a rubber backing. Does anyone use this and if so, what do you think of it?
 
Personally I want the urine to soak through to the newspaper underneath and I'm assuming with a rubber backing it won't do this?

We have some with the rubber backing for my mum's puppy (as it is slip proof) and it does make it stronger and more durable, but I will stick to the normal kind for my piggies.
