Hiya, I've seen a few petitions posted on here in the past, so I thought I'd post a link to one which is currently popular in the hamster community.
It was started by furbabyfamily2022 on TikTok, and currently has about 6,400 signatures  (He does other wonderful things in his spare time, like rescuing and rehoming animals, and blowing up/ smashing unsuitable cages: Hamster cage obliterated and Who wants to see a hamster ball get blown up?)
If we can get at least 10,000 signatures then the UK government has to respond!

Ban the sale of small animal enclosures that do not meet specified standards

P.S. You will need access to an email address to sign it. You also need to type in a UK postcode, for example: SW1A 1AA. :))

Thanks in advance, every signature really does count. And if you could forward the petition to your MP/friends/family afterwards that would be amazing!

Ok I have signed but sorry to be cynical nothing will change. Given our government is making animal testing even easier for companies now I fully believe that they will go with pet shop big bosses along the lines of these cages just being for temporary accommodation for travel or in times of sickness when animals may need a closer eye keeping on them. That said, if pet shops have to be open with these advertised as not meeting welfare standards and not suitable for permanent accommodation then that's a step in the right direction

No problem- I'm cynical too :)
However, sometimes miracles happen- I managed to get a local pet shop to stop selling animals (forever!) with a bit of help from my MP last year.

We can but try. Let’s hope some people will feel uneasy about buying a sub-standard cage if they know it’s not for permanent use
