I lost my 4 month-old Guinea pig today. It was just last week that I lost my little one. I don’t know why this keeps happening. She was healthy and happy in the morning. Though for the last few days she was sleeping alot and drinking water more than usual... I don’t know how to feel...

I'm sorry you've lost both in such a short space of time. Unfortunately we can't tell you what caused it. It could be anything from an illness they picked up from where they were to something genetic. But just know you did the best for them that you could. Do take good care of yourself and, hard as it is, please don't feel guilt for the great life you gave them in such a short time. ❤

Thank you❤️ The doctor said he could do a autopsy...

I feel your pain. I lost my 2 boys in 4 days of each other 4 weeks ago.
I’m so sorry for your loss😭❤️ How did you bury them? I buried my little one in a garden near my house but I don’t think that was a good option since they water the ground often there.

I buried them in paper bags with hay in them cos there was nothing they loved better than being in paper bags with hay. I buried them in the garden near their Mum Velvet under the Velvet plant. Dennis is on the right and Christian is in the front.

I am ever so sorry. A post mortem examination is a good idea if you have more guinea pigs to make sure that it is not infectious or if you are desperate for answers that none of us can give you.

Guinea pigs are prey animals; that means that they will suppress symptoms for as long as possible and to a rather amazing degree. Being more subdued and drinking more or drinking less - usually corresponding with a weight loss when you weigh daily - are often the only warning you'll get that something is not right and needs to be seen urgently; especially if you have just experienced a death which is additionally lowering the immune system. I always switch to weighing newly bereaved companions daily and check on them more closely, especially if the companion died unexpectedly and without a clear pointer as to what had actually gone wrong. It is always an anxious time and hugely upsetting if you lose two or more piggies in quick succession. :(

Thank you for your kind words❤️ I’m waiting for the post mortem examination 😢 Yes I did weigh her all week and she wasn’t gaining any weight which concerned me. I just thought maybe I’m expecting too much that she has to gain weight so fast because she used to gain about 5 grams every 5 days or so. I got another piggy left and the doctor said she seems fine... Also he asked me to give her probiotic yogurt but I’ve read that yogurt is not good for piggies.. do you know anything about that?

So sorry for your losses.
It’s very hard when you lose 2 so close together.
Be gentle with yourself as you grieve
Thank you ❤️ Yes it’s unbelievable I was beside them all the time after the death of the first piggy. But I couldn’t stop it...

Dairy products are a no no for piggies. Can you get probiotics such as Pro-C or Fibreplex in Iran?

Is it something that a drugstore would have or is it for animal use? Honestly I can’t even find good hay or pellets in Iran :(

So sorry for your loss. I’ve lost 3 of my guys this year despite my best efforts and the best piggie vets around. Sometimes we can never find or understand reasons why.
be kind to yourself. Sending hugs 💖
