I was just wondering, as lots of people seem to use fleece or vet bed in their cages, do you think it is possible to buy those fleeces that you sit inside, the huge ones & cut them to fit the cage? I saw some today in one of those cheap book shops for £4.99 & one of them would probably make about 3 or 4 cage liners :)

Don't see why not! I have odd bits of fleece that i've cut up to use on my ramp and it's fine! I mainly use vet bed though (which I have also cut up to fit my cage!) You might need to use newspaper and towels underneath :) I use mattress protectors!

I saw some Vet bed yesterday, it was £7.50 for 30cm or something?! rolleyes also, this may be a stupid question, but can they catch their little claws in it when they run around?

That's too expensive! I get my vet bed from here http://www.profleece.co.uk/ i would definitely recommend it...i've had it for months and it is still perfect. It's a really thick pile and the wee wicks through straight away so the pigs are never ever lying in the wet. It lasts about a week with a mattress protector underneath before needing a wash (i wash it at 60 degrees too!) I use fleece in another part of my cage and i find that it only lasts a few days and it feels damp...also i have to change the newspaper every day! I wouldn't want to have to do this every day so whilst vet bed costs more to purchase at the beginning than fleece i find it works better for me. Oh, and i've never had any problems with them catching their claws, they adore the vet bed!

I think it's just a personal choice because lots of members also use fleece on here and love it! I have also just bought a cage liner made with two layers of fleece with wadding in the middle from threelittlepiggies on here http://www.cavycozies.com/ so there are lots of options! All are better than wood shavings though (in my opinion!) Hope this helps :))

Thanks, yes that's a great help. It was in one of those horsey pet shop places rolleyes

I didn't keep any of my last piggies on wood shavings, they never suffered any URIs & I am sure that's why. I haven't got any piggies yet since losing my last oldie aged 7 only a few weeks back but I am starting to miss the wheeks when I open the fridge door .....:(

:( I remember reading about this, but what an amazing age for your piggy to live to! I can't imagine not having my piggies now either and i've only had them since December! They really do make a big impact! :)) The wood shavings are so bad for their little chests and their feet too (in my opinion of course!)

Yes she was very good for her age, it was so sudden. It is a long time to have any animal, so I am now pigless.....not sure where to go from here, whether to have a little break to get over her first or fill the gap that's left :( they are the most amazing little creatures that capture your heart :)

Hello! (to Guinea pigs <3) Are the mattress protectors you put underneath waterproof? and is that all you put underneath the vetbed? Thanks :)
