Went bowling last night with friends at PHAB club. About 16 of us in total. Including me, 3 of us in chairs.

Anyway the aisles aren't that big and we had to do quite a bit of moving around in order to have out turns.

What got me, was the people in the aisles a couple down the line. They gave us a look and got the staff to change lanes! Not that I minded them moving, but it's the stares we get as a whole group.

It bothers me when people don't see any of us as 'normal' people. There are a few of us that are married and have jobs and lead a 'normal' life. But in the public we are seen as 'freaky' or 'weird' or just odd it seems :-\

OK, sometimes I can be in the odd category, but that's just me! ;) LOL I guess I do let it get to me

By the way - we had a pretty good night and Mike was 2nd LOL

Sadly Kelly I'm sure you know this but some people will never accept the fact we are not all the same.
(((((HUGS)))))

Tracy

I know :-\ Not that anyone is the same exactly (;)) just to be treated 'normal' to any other group going out.

Treat others how you wish to be treated/ looked upon should be on our foreheads!

awww Kelly just ignore them - people like that aren't worth bothering with or thinking about :tickedoff:

Grrrr makes me angry!

Glad you had a nice night though :)

BIG BIG BIIIIIG HUGS xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

awww..

that phab club are they up and down the country?

my nan often bakes for little fundraising events they have where she lives, and they go on trips out n stuff she really enjoys it..just wondering if its the same thing?

yeah, same thing. All local groups. Didn't bother me much, but just got me annoyed that we have to be stared at

I think its ignorance which causes people to react in this manner to someone who is maybe a little different from themself. I work with small children and we talk about the differences between us all and how it makes us unique and the special person we are. However when children are told to not stare and to shut up then its no wonder they grow up thinking that anyone who isn't the same as them is weird in some way. Such a sad situation.

I'm glad you had a good evening. I love bowling although I haven't been for ages. Maybe we should have a big forum meet up and all go bowling! :)

Well, Kelly, you are quite strange yourself, but in a good way of course ;) :smitten:

Gah I would hate that, should make them go around in wheel chairs for a week or something and see all the stares they get :tickedoff: Glad you enjoyed the bowling though, I havn't been for ages...would love to go :P

Was thinking that too! ;)

Funny thing is, I could understand if it was kids... but they were much, much older ::)

LOL Jane, I knew you would say something like that :P :smitten:

I can remember as a child seeing a dwarf lady. Of course I said in a very loud voice 'whats wrong with that lady, why is she smaller than me? I was told not to be so rude and to shut up. It didn't answer my question. All i wanted to know was why she was different. It actually made me quite scared of her :-\

I see what you mean Kelly. When my Nan broke her ankle badly she was in a wheelchair and everyone kept asking ME or MY DAD how she was? Uh - hello - she is only there like! I just don't understand why they have to be so rude.

Don't let it get to you bighug

Yep, the exact same to that happened when my nannan broke her leg, she was in a wheelchair for a while, we went shopping and everyone was staring, or they asked me or grandad how she was feeling, whether her leg was better etc. Was really annoying, why couldn't they just ask her themselves?!

I get that al the time - even more so when I'm out with my mum ::)

you know what, that really annoys me too.
i got some friends that who are in a wheelchairs and when i was younger i also went to a group called PHAB and i think it was brilliant and it got youngesters to understand that you should not treat anyone different.

Why do people be so nasty?

I really just dont understand people who behave like this 98) 98) It makes me sooo angry >:( People behave like this with my brother and I get very protective 666) I just cant stand it !

I am glad you had a good night thou! ;) ;)

People don't know any better I guess :-\ I would say they were in their thirties, possibly older and definitely should have known better!

I gues they only see the disability before the actual person

I find it totally frustrating I just cannot get my head around people being like it, kids and teenagers I understand but fully grown adults >:( >:( >:(

I just think its very sad indeed when people act like that... can't get my head round it and it makes me angry that people can be like that at ANY age >:( :tickedoff:

bringing up 3 boys with ADHD who all say before they think has at times been embarrasing but for some reason they accepted anyone at face value and mixed in with kids in wheelchairs or kids with disabilitys I told them they had a disbility alright one that isn't physical but made them different from others they knew for instance my brother is deaf, so I too grew up with disbilitys he belonged to a disabled club and we all mixed in , I think if you are brought up in the same way you dont see any different, I got annoyed with my sis in law a few weeks ago becasue she said my brother needed to talk properly for christ sake he can only say what he hears I said, still defending him despite him being 45 Kelly sweetie take no notice ignorence is thier problem not yours, I'm going bowling tomorrow night might bump into Rio Ferdinands nan she goes a lot,

Grrrrrrrr. Now I can kind of understand the staring, cant condone it but can understand it even though its totally wrong. BUT.... why the request to change lanes? >:( What? do they think being in a wheelchair is catching? :tickedoff: :tickedoff:

For f*$%@s sake, it's a wheelchair, yes, we all know what one looks like!

I can understand staring if you had 3 heads or something or lane changes if you all had some kind of visble catching thing (sorry, not good with words!), but as I asid before it's a wheelchair!

Nobs like this aren't even worth getting pee'd off with :tickedoff:

Hope you had a great night anyway :smitten:

Some people find it hard to act or accept people with disabilties.
Id do what most people say and brush it off and forget about it.
Life is too short to let other people tackle you down! :)
