Okay so i've been around getting quotes from different people/companies trying to get someone to build me a proper wooden 4 floor house/cage for my guinea pigs. I have Dott and Ella who both are living alone because they are expecting. Bailey is housed with Aspen who is also expecting and my boars Flynn and Caesar live seperatly alone because they do not get along. So i have 5 seperate cages right now and some lonley pigs! My last hope got back to me today with a quote of $1980 Cayman dollars which converts to about 1500 pounds! That is just ridiculous (by the way cost of living is Cayman is crazy high). I don't know what to do!

What a rip off! Is it not possible to get c and c materials shipped over?

I tried that already and i couldnt find a site that ships international to Cayman! Could you believe that is what they wanted for a wooden hutch and it wasnt even going to be treated/finished for outside wheather ... that would have been additional!

That is awful! I wonder how much it is to ship over there.

well to ship here is whatever the overseas vendor charges plus 22-50% of your entire purchase for customs to clear your items plus a shipping and handling fee to the shipper who brought it in because we have to use a company or airline! It is very expensive. I just paid almost $350 US in total just to get some small items from amazon for my pigs (hide aways, hay racks, cuddle beds etc..)

Here is what her email response was...

"Hi Jessica,
I am sorry for the delay but I was just checking and re-checking the price!
The problem is the time it will take to make this item as a one off project.
We believe 2 men for 2 days.
The price will be $1,980 - this will not include the rubber matting and finishing which we would need you to supply.
I am sorry for the high price, but it is the labor cost that is making the price so high.
If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to email me."

That is extortionate! I have just paid £90 for wood and £8 for 2 new mesh panels, that will make a double level hutch 8ft wide 6ft high and 3 foot deep.

Here's a step by step video of making some cages with links to the specific materials you could probably find there (or something similar). It might give some more ideas. I'm planning to make one of these.

Ugh what a.rip off! Lissie your cages are amazing! Cayman i hope u can find a solution, i never would have thought of shelving!

Thanks! But those cages are not mine. I found them in the Guinea Pig Cages gallery.

This one is mine. I built it from scratch. Had the lumber store cut the wood to the size I need.

Thanks. Sweep or vacuum once or twice a day. Take all the fabrics out and wash once a week. I have small fleece pads for some of the heavily used area that gets replaced everyday.

Okay sounds easy enough! GREAT NEWS by the way, i found an old friend of my dad's who used to build wooden cages and he has offered to build me a 6 floor indoor hutch with pull out trays (for easy cleaning) for $300 Cayman dollars (400 pounds)! OMG i can absoluly work with that! So happy! I also used some of your pictures as reference, thanks so much!

@Posyrose ...thanks so much for your video too!:yahoo:

That is excellent news, we expect pictures with the piggies in their new home once complete. ;)
