Gizmo died yesterday between 2 and 5 a.m.
He had a seizure before I got home from work while my daughter was bathing him. This was his second.
He will be missed. Unfortunately his cage mate Churro, who he had a love hate relationship with is very quite now.
How long should we wait to see if Churro can be alone or we have to get another cage mate for him? Churro is a unfixed boar.

Sorry for your loss, I've moved your post to our rainbow bridge section.

I’m so sorry for your loss.

Churro should be ok for a couple of weeks while you arrange for a new friend for him. If however he seems to be struggling, then he may need a friend sooner. The guide linked in below explains everything in more detail
The best way to find a new friend is with the help of a rescue centre if you have one near you.

I’m so sorry you have lost Gizmo. Popcorn high at the bridge. Take care. ❤️

Hi and welcome

I am ever so sorry for your loss - how upsetting for your daughter! :yikes:
Here is some practical help, tips and resources if you need them: Human Bereavement: Grieving, Coping and Support Links for Guinea Pig Owners and Their Children

As long as Churro is still eating and drinking, please allow him time to grieve for his own mate - they were still bonded companions even when they each had their own patch.
Ideal are about 1-4 weeks for finding a new companion but if you have to wait for a bit longer for a perfect mate, then it is well worth taking your time to get it right over rushing out as a knee jerk reflex.
Here is lots more practical information on what you can do for Churro:
Looking After A Bereaved Guinea Pig
A Comprehensive Guide to Guinea Pig Boars (Contains a chapter on new companionship for single/fallen out or bereaved boars)

My own piggies had to wait for up two months when I suffered a spate of unexpected (and unrelated) deaths in very quick succession last summer but it was worth because they are all well bonded with company of their own liking - mostly more widows and widowers looking for a new forever home, plus a mother and rescue-born daughter pair for my youngest neutered 'husboar', which needed to stay in rescue a bit longer than planned due to a ringworm outbreak. It has taken a bit of effort to match them all up correctly but the happy results have more than made up for the longer wait. :)

Sorry to read your sad news and sending big hugs to you all. Saying goodbye is hard but he would have known he was loved and had a happy life with you.
Sending love to Churro too x

I am so sorry to hear of your sad loss. Sending you and your family my very best wishes.
Sleep tight Gizmo. Xx
