animal friendly woodstain?

Hi, I hope someone can help!

I've bought a new run from Ebay, which hasn't had the wood treated with anything. I thought I would just go to the local DIY shop + ask for animal friendly wood stain but they didn't seem to know what I was talking about!

So, does anyone know if any wood stain ok, or if there's a certain sort I should use?

Are you planning to leave the run outside, I have brought one from ebay that is not treated, but I plan to put mine away after use, for that reason it won't need treating. Not heard of any in particular that is pet friendly though, most runs are treated. Could you perhaps email someone on ebay that sells treated ones and ask what they use, if you don't get any comments from here.
