Two different things but there was no point putting them in different threads so I hope this is okay.
I have had a look through pervious threads on here to avoid asking such a common question but I just can not find the answer anywhere. First of all my boy is on 0.6ml which I have read is somewhat high for Baytril. He hates the stuff, obviously, as it is very bitter. Apart from holding him in a place where he can not move I am sure you can add juice to medication like such to help alleviate the taste.
I plan to buy just a carton of apple juice, my husband is sure the vet said diluten juice or "squash" but I just feel that would have way too many additives, is apple juice the best option? Also in which quantity would I add it for 0.6ml? I do not want to overfeed as I assume it will be quite high in sugar.
For the anesthesia, I have a 5 year old boar with gut stasis for the past few weeks, and more recently a URI. As we have had no luck with medication (3 weeks of treatment) we are doing an investigative appointment on the 6th of April which will require him to 'go under'.
He had pneumonia when he was little, has issues with on and off URI symptom's that have/will relieve themselves and now a proper URI. Since we have a week I hope the URI will clear up by then but it is obviously still risky. (He is on antibiotics for it aswell as pain relief for his stasis)
Alongside his URI there is his age, and anesthesia in such small animals is always a risk. I was just wondering if anyone has any personal experiences or advice that I can do to prepare him (or myself ) for his appointment.
Post-OP care advice or threads I may find helpful?
As always your support and advice is much appreciated.
