Hi all!
I think this topic has been around but I still can't find a solution!
I have adopted 3 guinea pigs and in the shelter they told us we should give them 200 grams of vegetables to each of them per day
On internet the only thing I am able to find is this 1 cup of vegetables, some people say this is 30 grams some others says it is 200grams... From 30 gr to 200 grams there is a huge difference!

Are people under feeding their piggies? Or giving them a lot? 🤣 I would really like a more detailed answer

Welcome to the forum

The veggie amount is one cup.
You cannot measure veg portions by weight because each type has a different density. Ie 50g of lettuce is a huge amount whereas 50g of cucumber isn’t much.

This guide shows a sample plate which gives an idea is the visual amount of each type of veg ie one lettuce leaf, one 1cm slice if cucumber, a couple of sprigs of coriander, and a slice of bell pepper - this is the safe daily veggies along with the portion size to give a good balance of nutrients : it would roughly fit one cup. This is the amount per pig

Hello and welcome to the forum.

I probably give a bit more than one cup per piggy per day but that is what they are used to. I wouldn’t just add lots of veg into their diet as it will upset the gut balance.

I have two boars called Pebble and Patrick. Who are you slave to?

My 3 piggies get 1-2 lettuce leaves, about half a inch of cucumber, quarter of a red pepper and about 1cm of aubergine every night. They get 1-2 sprigs of coriander each in the morning after cuddle time. Obviously, I cut the veg up into manageable portions for them. They get alternatives if I have them in the fridge. Particular favourites are a few bean sprouts, a green bean or sugar snap pea each or sprout leaves.

To be honest, I tend to give more than a cup of veg but that is because I don’t feed pellets often (they only get pellets twice a week and are given around 8 pellets each in winter (a few less in summer when they’re on grass all day))

I adopted 4 days ago 2 little 6 months old girls and one 1 year old boy!.. I am completely new with guinea pigs, but they are doing well all day long running and jumping around! But still afraid of me☹️

And they hate zucchini 🤣

Yes I am also not planning to give pellets often, I want a more natural diet for them

It’s very early days then! Settling in and learning you aren’t going to hurt them can take weeks to months.

Most piggies do hate zucchini (courgette in the UK)!

The three guides I’ve linked in below will help you
