Right I'm in the middle of re-building my guinea pig cage so that its multi-level with one piggie on each level. I am living in a shared house and can only manage the minimum space at the moment ;(

I am having trouble with making the base stable, I have six cubes - 3 on either side as a stand and 6 cubes as a base floor. I have placed a wooden joist along the length of the base (inserted into the cube below) in an attempt to stablise it but still the "legs" are not going to be stable enough to hold the weight of the entire cage on top. I have looked closely at the pics on the sticky and I just cant ork out how people have managed (without building a base from wood) to make the cubes stable.

Thanks

Jen

Have you looked on guinea pig cage's website, i m not sure what your trying to make but i have made lot's of different c and c cage's i did one with a base

I put grid's all along the back and side's and at every space in between so i could still put my boxes in buttheir was a grid either side

You will need to put support grids in the centre so that the base is solid. Otherwise the centre grids will not hold weight. The picture above is an ideal nicely supported cage.

Thanks - thats so obvious! I have no idea why I didnt think of that.

I'm hoping to do this cage which I first saw by flintstone -

I would like to expand in the future to a 4x2 but for now a 3x2 will have to do.

how have other people attached the cubes? I am not using the connectors but the zip ties are not very structured to hold things in place.

Thanks

Jen

I have used the same approach as 4piggiepigs using the grids to hold up the ones above.

In that pic i used connectors for the bottom but i only use cable ties now its not rigid till its altogether and can be fidly but i found it to be safest
