Please meet Aspen - we are picking her up on Sunday and his going to be Mali's wife (hopefully)!
Obviously Mali will not be ready to meet her for another 3 weeks (cant risk a mini pig coming out of the blue). We are planning on putting their cages together side by side so they can introduce themselves.

Mali is usually out of his cage for about 6 hours at night running along the sofa and I don't want this to change this as he loves it. I was planning on giving Aspen floor time during or lap time with us during this time. I am just wondering if they will be curious of one another or if this would delay bonding etc?

Any advice would be appreciated!

No, you are doing the right thing! Getting to know each other through the bars and being friends beforehand will make for a much smoother introduction when the time has come. Separate roaming time will be perfectly fine. Prepare for some cage gnawing from Mali, though, when he wants to join his lady-love!

Thanks Guys!

Its good to know I am going along the right lines.

I am just a bit nervous as Mali is very much full of his own self importance and is a right wee bachelor that she may be scared or bullied by him. I'm hoping he will turn into a big soppy mess and fall head over heels in love!

He is now 3 weeks on from his neutering - his stitches have not dissolved and I think they are starting to annoy him so we are back to the vets on Friday so hopefully the grumpy wee sod will be happier by the time she arrives!

Should I bath him or anything before they meet?

X

Baths are not necessary. A "buddy bath" is advised when you have separated two hormonal boars that were about to fall out; it removes the testosterone stink from them when you want to re-introduce them again on neutral ground after a cooling-off period. It doesn't do anything else.

Introductions are likely to be quite a pee fest - Mali will spray her liberally with his testosterone laden pee and she will use her pee the same way human ladies use a pepper spray if he gets to bolshy! If you can, stage the intros on the lawn or somewhere wipeable! More tips you can find at the top of this section.

Hey,

My neutered boar lived next to his sow for a good few months before he was neutered then while i was waiting for it to be safe, I'd also let them meet before hand when we're where holding them and when they we're eventually aloud together it's was like they had always been a pair!

I wish you luck with your introductions!

:)

That's good to know - He very much thinks he is king of the universe and we are his slaves so I cant imagine him with a lady love! I know its the best thing for him though and we will probably see his true personality shine through! Exciting times - I cant wait to meet her! x

I use hug ginger a lot because he was my only little piggie who didn't have a friend as all my others we're girls and he got so tame and now he lives with skittles he's not too bothered about me anymore but their both so happy which makes me happy!

Now i go to get him out and he hides behind skittles!

Aww that's nice to hear- I'm scared he won't be my baby boy anymore and won't need his mum for hugs when he meets Aspen. But all that matters is their happiness. They will just have to remember who feeds them! Haha x

That's true, don't worry Ginger still loves me if food is involved and once i can catch him he enjoys his hugs! :))
