Ok so I have popped on introduce me and said Hi.
I have two male young guinea pigs (Princess and Pirate).
They are in their cage most of the day (large 3 tiered which obv not managing yet lol). One has managed to get onto one of the half levels and they can both get down from it.
I feed them in the morning and check water - quick spot clean etc
Then I get them out once in the day for a hold so the children can see them - they will sit on me (a little bit "fun" to catch hold of but seeming less stressed each time). And then in the evenings once the chidlren have gone to bed I set up a large area in the living room - either with the childrens old fencing stuff or with a nylon fold out run (or tonight got all clever and figured a way to put the two together). I pop in this some fresh food, a few bits of grass and a few fresh veg/fruits and some tunnels an arch, some hay etc.
So princess runs around straight away and munches on ANYTHING lol. Pirate (the quieter) takes a while and hides in a tunnel then eventually has a wander around - last night quite a run at times up and down (on an old fleecy blanket). I get lots from Princess of what I think (from listening to the clips) are the happy wheeky noises. Pirate as of yet really does not make many noises. They interact a lot with each other and do a fair bit of bum sniffing and sort of what looks like nice chasing - does not appear to be any aggression with it. Pirate still often freezes if I get up so he can see me over the top but then will go and play again after a while.
Am I doing this right - should I be doing more/less should I be handling them more. They are not overly happy coming out of cage but once sitting on your chest they will sit and be stroked generally (unless loud noises I did sneeze other day that did NOT go down well) happily and stay with you not try and escape (burrow in crook of arm etc).
Also occasionally the make odd tiny little sneezy noises just one here and there so not an aggression noise I dont think.
So does this sound like I am doing the right kind of thing? Thanks for any advice I have took a rather LONG (and probably to most people boring) video on my phone but NO ideas how to upload it. So if anyone could help I could put a little video up of them.
Also occasionally Princess seems to be slipping, he seems ok on her feet nearly all the time just a couple of times - could this be the nylon run - would I be best to pop a towel or something in there to make it less slippery.
Oh and also (sorry) I think he was having a go at eating her poo earlier - do they try and do this as it comes out (sorry tmi I know) as he sort of seemed in that kind of position?
Right best pop them back in cage for the night and get tidied up.
Thanks (again) :)

Firstly, I hope you dont mind me asking a couple of questions as well as answering some of yours. :)

How big is each level of the cage you have?
All the behaviour your talking about sounds perfectly normal.
Popping a fleece down in the nylon run should make it less slippy for him. :)
Piggies produce two kinds of poos, the ones we pick up, and the ones they eat (as you described) the ones they eat have nutrients they need to digest twice to make the most of, its totally natural. :)

Hello welcome to the forum. Sounds like things are going well. You often get one that's more confident than the other and they do like to kick up a fuss about being picked up, it's only natural so don't worry.
The best way to upload a video or photographs is to put them on photobucket then copy the link.
I think Connie answered all your questions. Re the levels of the cages if you can make sure the ramps have high sides or are enclosed they're more likely to go up them (and less likely to fall off them!)
P.S. Would I be guessing right that one of the kids named him Princess? :))

Thanks.
Ok the cage is approx 1 meter x 50 and then 150 ish high and each level has a half level, so bottom level to a little 1/4 maybe level (like a shelf) then a ramp up to next level then same up to the top.
Ok good re poo then lol.
Yes my boy girl twins thought they were getting boy/girl guinea pigs - and forever more they will ALWAYS think that - I have even started going her and him (just easier lol). But dont panic I am not keeping an oppisite pair lol.
I will have a go at the piccys tomorrow thanks I am never very good at things like this.
I think I will try and pop some stuff down (another lady suggested that non slip stuff like you use in cars etc to keep stuff on dash). And I may try and get my dad to add some sides to the ramps.
I will keep getting them out in the evenings then (apart from a tue as I have an evening class and bit too late once home but they then come out in the day when children are in pre-school) for a nice peaceful play and maybe sit with them and offer some food. They liked parsley today and that may be something nice to try and feed them as nice long stork if that makes sense.
Thanks ever so much for all taking time to reply and I will try and work on a video lol
x
