Hi, I took one of my two piggies to the vet today, as she has been off her food for about a week and it got worse over the weekend. She also suddenly lost weight when she's always been on the large side. He found a big ovarian cyst on one side and a possible smaller one on the other, and I feel really bad for not knowing what I was looking for. She had an ultrasound to confirm and he said he could operate to have her spayed. I have booked her in for the op in 2 days but am so worried she won't come through it. I'm wondering if I've made the right choice. Given her lack of eating, lethargy and the size of the cyst, would there be any other option? If it goes wrong, and she doesn't make it, I may think I made the wrong choice. Not had a pig have a GA before so worried sick, as are the kids. Thanks

I’ve had piggies spayed due to cysts. They have all come through fine.
There is very helpful info on post op care on the forum, sorry I lack the tech skills to link for you.

Hope all goes well with the op.

Thanks, I have been reading up on the post op stuff, I'm just hoping we get that far. Good to know that yours all came through fine.

It’s such a worry when they need an operation. It’s sounds like she definitely needs to have surgery though. Good luck. Fingers crossed for a speedy recovery. Sending healing vibes. ❤️

Unfortunately when they opened her up to remove the cysts, they found a large tumour so she had to be put to sleep. So devastated as we didn’t all get to say goodbye to her. It wouldn’t have been right to bring her round in pain, to then have her put to sleep anyway.

We put her in the cage and her friend went really weird and started chirping, which made my heart break again. Now she’s on her own

Any advice on helping my piggie through it? We can’t get another right away as we are going on holiday next week and then Christmas

Oh no I’m sorry to hear this. Sending you and your family a hug ❤️

As long as your remaining piggy is eating ok you don’t need to rush getting them a friend.
