Hi, I've got 7 piggies that are outdoors, I've recently seen a few things saying that sawdust / shavings aren't the best substrate for them, what is the best way to keep outdoor pigs?

Similar to the above is aubiose. Also fairly cheaper compared to many beddings. I like it, because it flattens down into a smooth surface if you have it deep enough. Wee runs through the top layer and is socked up by the the bottom layer. Poo can be picked off the surface and the material doesn't tend to stick to fur.

I used to use aubiose too and found it really good. For a while my stockist run out which is how I found medibed. Both are great I would just say that medibed is marginally warmer and cosier in winter. I used to used aubiose in the summer and medibed in the winter. I do think aubiose is better at soaking up their wee!

I use Fitch which is great. There's a thread trying to set up some buying in pairs or groups that I started to try and get it even cheaper. It has photos of Fitch in. I will post a link.

Where do you get auboise from? Also would you be able to post a close up photo in use please @Treacle ? I'd be interested in having a look.

I also use Fitch bedding, i won't use any other bedding now, it's very soft and warm, it's absorbent and not dusty and it has good odor control!

If you buy it in bulk it works out a lot cheaper, i store mine in my sisters garage! :)

I get it from Kennel Gate, they keep it in stock in the shop. It is about £12 per bale.

Have you had any interest in the Sheffield area?
So far the interest has been good but people have been too far apart. I could possibly share with you though if you are interested as I could time a drop off to you on a Saturday when the boys go to watch football in Rotherham?

If you are happy to do this - that would be great - just pm me when convenient for you and we'll get something arranged.

Just spent £10 on an 85litre bag of megazorb. The bedding itself is fab, the pigs like it & it goes a long way but I HATE the smell. I'll stick with it till the bag is done ( which may take a couple of months) bit would be interested in trying auboise or medi bed

Thanks guys, I've tried looking on amazon etc for auboise but not coming up with much, where is it from? Is it sold in large quantities for horses?

I doubt amazon will sell it. My pet supplier food sells it. Either a pet store, or local equine supplier should be able to get it. It comes in bales for about £12.00 a bale.

I am another user of Aubiose, brill stuff :)
Treacle and fudge kick it up, because they are popcorning around like nutters. I am not sure if this is because it is nice and soft, before they were on back 2 nature, they never kicked that up. Now is that because it is heavier? Or because back 2 nature was rough, and it was hard on their paws they chose not popcorn? I have pegged fleece to the front of the cage to catch the flying bedding!
Pigson and teddy have not kicked it up, but I have noticed them snuggling down in it. They were on wood shavings before. I don't think Pigson popcorns at 1.5kg......

There's a chain of pet supplies shops that sell it - called Kennelgate. I'm not sure if there's a Kennelgate near you. I found an equine supplier near me that sells it by looking on the aubiose website.

I get mine from Kennelgate. We have about 4 stores locally.

We have a local supplier so it's very handy to get and it smells lovely :)

Yes, it does smell lovely, but only in the bag, I have not noticed it in the cage. I was reluctant at first as during my research I found reports of people saying it stunk the house out! Kennelgate have a guarantee, if you don't like it, just return it for a refund. So it was worth a go.

I love it, and so do the piggies.

Kennelgate have a website and sell things for national delivery. I haven't checked if that includes auboise.

On fleece he does! :)

any local saddlery/equine suppliers should stock auboise bales. if not they can get one in their next delivery easy peasy :)
