When my boys came to me they were used to woodshaving so I though - I'll keep them on it just now then try something else in a few weeks but I can't seem to get anything around me. I'm in Fife, I've been in every local pet shop & they only have woodshavings.
I went into one today who told me they have had Guinea pigs for 20 years & woodshavings are fine. I told them that I read on the internet that woodshaving were not the best for Guinea pigs & they told me the internet wasn't there when they 1st kept piggies & theirs are always fine! How helpfull!

Anyway, does anyone know anywhere I can buy something beter for my boys?

Megazorb is great and made from paper / cardboard, you'll probably find it at an animal feed / supplies place rather than a petshop though. If you look on their website there is a list of stockist or if you ring they should be able to tell you the nearest stockist to you. I use it all the time for my lots and I like it

Some horse bedding is great you just need to make sure there is no citronella or eucalyptus oil added to it

You could try towels or fleece, if you don't mind doing a lot of washing/brushing bits of hay and whatnot off them.

I use Easibed, newspaper and a layer of hay! Never had a problem. fleece is cost effective but couldn't run to it as found it unhygenic putting it through my washing machine. :)

I use wood shavings it was recomendes by the pet store, Is it not very good for piggies?
I'm coming to the end of my bag now and need some more , should i be looking for something else to use?

My piggies have been fine so far with wood shavings but i have just read the posts about them and i am definately going to change.. need to do a bit of research before i choose something else.
Its awfull to think i have been recomended this product when its really unsuitable.
Id rather change now than wait for something to happen

Are you not supposed to use shavings?! I had no idea! My previous 3 boys had shavings for their whole lives... my eyes have been opened!
Why are alternatives better than shavings, are they expensive in comparison, and where can you buy megazorb?

Thanks!

Megazorb is a Horse bedding and can usually be found where they sell horse feed and bedding, Aubiose is also available at similar outlets.

Thanks everyone I had wanted to try auboise or megazorb but I can't seem to get it anywhere.

I assume these work out a lot more expensive than shavings?

althouuughh... i have no idea where i could get it, which would mean i'd have to order online and pay £5.95 postage! boo! :(

I found a place which is about 20-25miles away from me but at 5.90 for a giant bale it is **** about 1/4 price of shavings and worth the trip!
