So one of my new pigs had symptoms of a URI when I got her. She went on 10 days of antibiotics. She was still sneezing out clear mucus after that. My vet told me to monitor her for worsening symptoms for 2 weeks. She didn't get worse, she's still eating clear eyes, active, etc, but she didn't get better. So he has her on a 7 day antibiotic treatment.

He said if she doesn't get better off of that, it's likely just allergies since she's not showing any other signs of a URI.

Has anyone else dealt with allergies with their pig(s)?

Is this the same antibiotic as last time?
Allergies are very rare. Sensitivities to dust etc can sometimes occur.
Have you checked the hay isn’t dusty, checkEd there are no irritants in the room - candles, perfumes, sprays, scented fabric detergents etc.

I would be more inclined to wonder whether it's a mild URI that was treated with the wrong antibiotic and hence never really cleared. Supposedly actual allergies in guinea pigs are pretty uncommon. I would make sure there is nothing obviously irritating in her environment (harsh cleaners, air fresheners, dust, etc.)

No irritants. Paper bedding. Running an air purifier as well.

It's a different anti biotic this time around. I think the reason he wanted to wait 2 weeks before putting on the anti biotic is because (if I'm not mistaken) guinea pigs can't fight a URI on their own and if it was a URI she would have been showing additional symptoms by this point. I could be wrong about that.

Where we live, allergies are kicking everyone's tail. He said he's been seeing it in dogs, cats, etc. Everyone, including a lot of animals, are just getting hammered with allergies right now. That seemed to play a role in the diagnosis.
