Hi, I've never had guinea pigs before and am considering getting one (two if that's better for them). I had a beloved cat who passed due to FIV complications 5 years ago. While I had him, I had a scare where I fell really ill and thought i'd developed allergies to him, and it was a really tough time for me because we loved each other so much. Thankfully, I found avenues in order not to give him up, we got through it and in the end it turned out I wasn't even allergic to him!
But now that I'm considering getting guinea pigs, I want to know how common it is to develop allergies to guinea pigs. Of course, no one can tell you for certain whether you'll develop allergies down the line, but I want to get some info on how common they seem to be in pet owners here. I will also be keeping the guinea pig(s) in my bedroom (as I live in a shared space), so that's something to consider.

Always two piggies. They are social animals so should not be alone.
If you are prone to allergies you may want to try and find a place you could spend time with a piggy to see if it set you off? Possibly a rescue may allow you to go and see them.
If you are allergic then I think having them in same room you sleep would not be good.
