Hi All,

I am hopefully putting my girls in the shed for the summer. Now I have 4 in a group Flora, Fleur, Amber and Kitty. My 2 Teddies Leia and Lyra and the three foster girls Goldmoon, Esme and Bupu who I was going to try and bond with my own girls and see how they go.

I have the space but I am concerned about Leia and Lyra. Last time they were in a big group they came down with mites but this was when their sister Elora was ill so it could have been that or someone within the herd was bullying her.

So I'm unsure whether to try them with a herd again, Leia is a little menace she is constantly at Lyra and gets so narked with her and jealous if Lyra has a cuddle. Lyra seems happy enough but don't know whether to have Lyra with the herd and maybe have Leia as a lone pig (I hate saying that but she can be so horrible to her) or maybe get a baby sow as I do think leia wants to mother her but Lyra is bigger and just won't have it.

Fleur was like this with Flora but when we got Amber and Pearl she settled down and became mum. Sorry for rambling, my Sows give me more grief than my boars! Haha! x

Would a neutered boar help? I found my group of girls stopped bickering as soon as I put my Twinkle boar in - all happy families now! Sows can be so hand-baggy!

Thanks Sophie, never thought of that! He'd be in heaven with 9 sows! haha :)

Can thoroughly recommend it - makes such a difference to the squabbling! When my neutered boar Harry died, all hell broke loose in the sow group until Twinkle arrived!

I'll have to see if I can fit one in. haha Wondering whether Fleur who is 2 in May and Goldmoon who is almost 3 would accept a neutered boar they are the boss of their own domains! :(|) it's worth looking at though! One would certainly put Leia in her place and I may get one and keep the 2 girls together and put him with them. At least then Lyra would have some proper company! And as she says that they are sleeping next to one another in their cage! rolleyes

Great idea ! I keep my neutered boar, Cedric, with a group of girls and he really keeps the peace. If I ever have trouble getting groups of girls to settle together I just pop Cedric in for a few days and then put him back with his own ladies when all is calm.

Girlies can certainly be little madams sometimes!

Just ran it by Peter (other half) and he agreed but thougth I was going to get one of my own done haha no! They are all in pairs. I know a local rescue has a influx of piggys so I will try there! :)

Neutered boars are worth their weight in gold - have been thinking of getting a second one myself! Wood Green is full of them at the moment, pretty ones too!

Just rung about him Lindsay going to see him at the weekend! :))

Got the girls off school (AGAIN) with a sickness bug Caitlin is fine but Emily and myself have it! So much going about lately so going to see the little fella at the weekend! Not sure if it is Bubble but as long as he is neutered that is the main thing! :)

Excellent news Louise. Keep us updated on how things gox)

Will do Lindsay! :)

Jane Freshfields have guineas in at the mo but couldn't get through. Wallasey RSPCA have three boars it at the mo. They are all neutered as standard.

I'm going to take some snaps of the shed and hopefully that will do for homechecking as I don't want to go twice with it being a little out of my way.

Yeah Emily came down with it Saturday night, what with Scarlet Fever, heavy cold and now this I really feel for her. I have it minor but I expect it is worse for children.
