After a bit of a move around I am going to be moving the guinea pigs into a different room which will also be my sewing room where I spend most of my time. It's almost like a second living room but just for me! I also have a TV in there and armchair.

Eileen and Edna will still have their 5x2 C&C cage but Eva and her 2 babies will be having a 6x2, possibly 7x2 but I haven't measured yet. Also, because no dogs or cats will be allowed in this room I will be placing the cages on the floor which means I can add a run area more easily and allow them more time in the run each day (in separate sessions). Also because of the no cats or dogs rule, I wont need a roof on the cages.

Just making a note of my plans in this thread and I will add photos etc once it all gets started which should be in a week or so if Eva's babies are big enough for the C&C. A couple of weeks ago they were still wedging their heads in the squares.

I spent 9 hours today sorting everything and I am exhausted. Worth it though. Only slight problem is I could only fit a 4 x 2 for Edna and Eileen. Eva and babies have a 6 x 2. I think the 4 x 2 will be ok for the 2 pigs, plus they will be in the run a lot.

Eva and the babies haven't moved in yet as I still feel they are a bit small and could get through the bars. Going to leave it another week which also means I can order more correx as I need to add more flooring at one end and the loft area.

I ended up leaving them on the tables (I also need to get another table from Ikea) as I really couldn't lose the storage space underneath. They have so much stuff. I also ended up adding a lid because of the hammocks and the loft area, they would have been able to jump over. This time I used the connectors and it's made it much more secure but my goodness, my hands are killing me from fixing it all together.

The large side isn't set up properly yet but here are some pictures.

@Eileen's Mum, may I ask how you make the cage lids? Are they easy to open? A c&c is next on my list of piggy home improvements but I haven't a clue where to start. :D

It all looks utterly wonderfully amazing. Such lucky lucky guinea pigs. Well done.

Aww thank you. I'm just trying to do the best I can with the space I have an the unexpected pigs I have!

This time I fixed half the roof on using the connectors so that part doesn't open and then just used cable ties for the front part so it acts like hinges. On the 4x2 the whole front row lifts up as one piece. On the 6x2 I made it so there are 2 lids both 3 panels long so half can be opened at a time or both.

It looks amazing.
And I think 4 x 2 is fine for 2 piggys.
A lot depends on what they have in their cage and how it is laid out, but yours looks about as close to perfect as it is possible to get.

Like a piggy palace! I look at this and think my cage looks crap for my girlie haha. Well done, it's clear how much you love them!

Thank you :) It's been a bit of a journey. I started off just 4 months ago with 3 guinea pigs in a commercial cage. Then the unexpected babies arrived and then Eva and Edna fell out and in between all that I had to buy another cage and then I decided to switch to C&C. Hopefully I'm done now! I'm very happy with how it's all gone and feel that I've done my best, where as before, I just wasn't happy with the commercial cages.

It looks wonderful, they won't know themselves! I've caught up on your journey through the different threads, you've handled it all so well!

Wow that looks amazing, I'm quite jealous! Your babies are luckier than mine rn :))

I am in awe of all your fleecy items, if only I had the time, patience and working sewing machine to do a matching set!

Where did you get the hammocks or did you make them? I have 2 o3 but never seem to hang right!

Do you have a pattern?
Friend and I have just invested in a sewing machine to make piggy things and coats for my disabled dog.

I followed this, it's really easy but needs a decent machine and denim needles to get through all the layers when you are sewing the tabs on.

The triangle hammocks I just made using the same idea but one layer and just triangle shape :)

So I think I am going to make a small change to both areas. Firstly, I have loads of spare grids so I've decided that I can budge everything up a little and Edna and Eileen can have an extra grid added on, making theirs a 5x2 as originally planned.

Secondly, I am going to make large hay areas in each cage rather than just the small litter trays and hay bags. The reason behind this is that I have read so much about people piggies loving to play and sleep in the hay. Yesterday I added a small compact bale of hay to each cage and let them do what they wanted. They had great fun eating it, pulling it apart, climbing on it and then sleeping in it. I think they need to have a nice pile of hay in their cages all the time but I don't want a lot of mess. The plan is to make a 2x2 grid hay area in Edna and Eileen's cage and a 3x2 grid area in Eva and her babies cage. This will have puppy pads then hemp substrate and then fresh hay on top.

Just waiting for the correx to arrive and hopefully this weekend I can sort it all. Also, fingers crossed the babies and Eva can move into their cage this weekend. Pics to follow.

Oh and I may be adding a few more grids to the 6x2 :D

Just find your set ups amazing but do agree that they love to burrow in their hay therefore making a mess all the time! I've just started with a friend making hay bags etc to mainly brighten up their areas. Will still have bundles of hay in corners for them though!
Saw your lovely piggies in the GPM today!

Yeah I will also still keep the hay bags so they have clean hay if they want it but just think a big hay pile is more fun :)

Today I added the extra grids. I have moved the dividing grids along in the current set up so that Edna and Eileen now have the 4x2 but with an extra 2 grids floor space in an L shape so a total of 10 grids floor space. I think I will made the 2x1 extra area the hay bit and go bigger if they need more.

I have also added a 2x2 L shape to the remaining 5x2 so it now means Eva and here 2 babies will have 14 grids floor space. The extra 2x2 will be the hay area.

I removed the small loft area from each cage as I needed the grids and also Edna and Eileen hadn't gone near it so it seemed a bit pointless.

Will get photos once the correx is fitted and the cages are set up. Wont be here till next week so got to wait a bit longer before I can move Eva and the babies in.
