Just recording here the stages of making my first C&C cage.

Today we tried out the grids in various combinations and thought that this fitted the space best -3x3 grids with a 1x1kitchen area. DSC_0084.webp

Now for the tricky maths bit, working out how much correx I need...:mal:

Looks fab! Good luck with the correx! Maths has never been my strong point.

I'm terrible at maths, I would leave that to my OH! It would stress me out to much!
Cage looks good by the way, looking forward to seeing the finished result

Looks great. I hate sorting the correx out, it's a nightmare!

In true Alibobble's style, have already changed cage layout having found 4 overlooked grids (how did I even do that?)DSC_0085~2.webp

So we have a 3x3 with 2 1x1 extensions- one for a kitchen and one for a hay bin.

Have done tricky maths and need a bit of correx 1500mm x 1500mm for the main tray. Of course it doesn't come in that size, so have ordered 3 bits of 2440x1220, two of which I'll stick together (duck tape?). Third bit will be reserved for correcting inevitable ups. Expect copious swearing when it arrives, apparently on Wednesday.

BTW, cage is currently home to numerous farm animals who are 'keeping it warm'. Thanks mini Bobbles!

Wow. That will be amazing when its finished. I've turned your pictures the correct way too:-)

:DLooks great, our c&c is still in the planning stage at the moment, your thread and pictures are very helpful & inspiring

Thank you all for your kind words and encouragement.

In case it helps anyone building their own C&C, here are:

THINGS WOT I LEARNT WHILST DEALING WITH CORREX.

1. 8ft x 4ft correx sheet is bigger than you think. And 2 bits of it are twice as big as that and will not fit in your living room. Cut to length (plus 300mm or so to allow for error) before you bring it into your working area. Or be sensible and wait til summer and do the whole thing outside.

2. If you need to join correx sheets, do it before you cut to size and shape. That way you can...

3. Make sure any joins will end up in the middle of the finished base and not so near one edge that it all goes wrong when you fold it.

4. Have a new blade in your Stanley knife.

5. Measure things at least 3 more times than you think you need to.

6. Cutting correx is ridiculously easy one minute and stupidly hard the next as the angle of your blade changes. Makes no difference whether you're cutting along or across the flute, you'll be going along speedily and then suddenly come to a going halt.

7. Ultimate duck tape is really, really sticky.

8. Be aware that if you cut your correx using a nylon plastic chopping board to protect the carpet, there will be a static build up which will discharge itself when you turn the correx over and give you a shock. Try and make sure it's not on your Hoo Ha or Man Bits.:yikes:

9. Brooklyn Nine Nine is an excellent choice of background TV.

All that said, it wasn't too awful and took around 2 hours. Feeling quite proud of myself:yahoo:

Thanks all :)

Betty and Norrie have now taken up residence and are getting used to their new home. They have eaten a pile of dandelions, coriander, cucumber, pepper and sticky weed and done loads of poos, although I have not personally seem them do any of these things.

Hopefully they'll get more confident soon and I can supply housewarming pictures
