I have 3 girls who are 7 weeks old. I've had lots of conflicting advice on what hay to feed them! At the moment they have Timothy hay (and also pellets and veggies!). I have been told so many different things: to feed only alfalfa hay, a mixture of both, and also to avoid alfalfa hay! What do I believe?!

What are your recommendations for hay for young pigs?

Thanks in advancel

Grass hay should always be available to piggies of all ages so thats timothy, orchard, meadow are the most common. Alfalfa is a legume hay, so not suitable for being the only hay fed, but some people give it supplementary to young (under 6 months) pregnant, lactating or piggies recovering from illness. I've never bothered with it much for younger piggies but I do give it to my special needs piggy once a week as it's higher in protein and she struggles with weight maintenance :) It's also a lot higher in calcium which is why it's best avoided for healthy adults.

Thank you! These were the lines I was thinking along! I have got them 2 'alfalfa wreaths' which are 70% Timothy hay, 30% alfalfa. So perhaps I'll just give them these once a week or so
