my guinea pigs cage is always smelling, is it ok to use air freshener or perfume around and/or in their cage? also when i clean their cage, what cleaning spray do you suggest? or what is the vinegar and water thing i see prople using?

Air freshener and perfume are not a good idea. Johnson's clean and safe is a good cleaning spray that really shifts smells and wee residue, and F10 is very good- there is the disinfectant version of F10 but also a cleaning disinfectant spray. The best way to stop smells though is always going to be finding the right bedding, and more frequent cage cleans!

Please do not use air freshener or perfumes anywhere near the piggies. It is very damaging for everyone’s health. Piggies reply on their sense of smell and this will have a detrimental impact on their wellbeing. These sprays are purely chemicals. Are you confusing the smell of piggies with a need for a more regular clean out. I have two boars on hay and newspaper, and a bit of vetbed in their bed, they smell lovely, they are cleaned out about twice a week and are fine, or perhaps I am nose blind! :lol!: I absolutely love the smell of fresh hay. Fleeces do seem to smell more I have them for playpen.

You can clean your piggies cage with a mixture of white vinegar and water. 1 part vinegar 10 parts water. It kills germs and neutralises smells, no chemicals and very cheap.
