the world has been taken over with spiders there every where :o 8...

whats worse is I'm getting more and more scared of them i was reduced to tears the other day :red

Lemon scented furniture polish is supposed to be a deterrent - a few years back we would get 5-6 every day on our sitting room curtains (and I'm not talking small ones - the ones with big long legs) - I'm absolutely petrified of them, always have been. I bought some lemon scented furniture polish (after some searching on the internet) and sprayed it around the skirting boards - haven't seen any since :p

They also say conkers in windowsill and door frame corners deter them as they hate the smell...; do you think ive ever been able to find a blinking conker anywhere? (ebay sell them though when they are in season) ;)

I've learnt to 'cope' with spiders since living on my own but the one in the bath the other day was too much for me; on the curve of the bath, bigger than a pint glass, no way I was going to attempt that! So I did a very girly thing and asked my next door neighbour to get it out for me. He tried very hard not to laugh as I insisted it was very big but when he saw it he said "Blimey!" and didn't think it so funny when it ran round the bath as he tried to catch it. It wasn't until the following day when I was chatting to his wife that I mentioned it and she told me he's scared of spiders and it's always her that has to catch them, he just didn't want to look like a wuss in front of me!

Lol Katie :)):))

This time of year the females go on the hunt for a male, so most of the huge ones you see are females.

I'm also quite scared of them, and this year I am in a new house in a village surrounded by trees :...:... Apparently we get monsters in the village, so I'm dreading it...

I also heard that conkers work...theres also something called "spiderstop" that you spray on door and window framed that's supposed to help keep them away.

Conkers seriously? Blimey let me know if you need any, well have loads by me come autumn proper.

Sorry to dissapoint but the conkers thing is an old wive's tale and does not keep spiders at bay. I've got a sort of restraining order system for spiders in my flat, so long as they keep to the ceiling they can stay, come near and it's out the window. I like the chicken idea, at my mum's house the chickens occasionally wander in if the door is open but my dog takes great delight in fulfilling her 'duty' of chasing them back out again so they don't get a chance for spider hunting. The cat likes the big house spiders though but I'm not sure if it's worse having spiders around or seeing the cat with spider legs hanging out it's mouth. :{

my cat just plays with them, he won't eat them although my old cat used to always have spider legs wiggling out of his mouth... cats are odd

And here's me thinking we must have had a spider invasion that one year and everyone went out conker hunting - hence why we couldn't find any :{ Plenty of conker trees, no conkers....

I seriously haven't seen any spiders in our house since we started using furniture polish trick - quite honestly i don't know if it's that keeping them away or my screaming when i actually spot one!!

It's the fast moving ones i hate, when they go under the sofa and no one can find them for hours - if i know it's out the house or dead then i can sort of relax slightly. If i do see one i find I'm looking for more for hours afterwards - i pretend see them out of the corner of my eyes, get that sensation that one is crawling on me, the constant itching all over - did i mention i HATE spiders?

One of my fist posts on here was about a spider I'll retell it because it was rather funny :))
Okay so while you're reading this, remember I had just had my piggies for maybe 2 or 3 weeks, so we where in our bounding moments.
When I was about to feed my guinea pigs I put my hand in the food bag and there was a rather large spider that I guess was just chillin in the food. When I pulled my hand out he was on my hand, I screamed and swatted him off, well he came back. That time I screamed even louder I made sure he hit the ground and when he did I made a fist and started punching the floor lol. Once I knew he was dead I could finally rest, I looked over at the girls and they were staring at me wide-eyed and hiding in their huts.
I dont use bags anymore, now I use containers that snap shut lol, for both teh guinea pigs and my hamster!

Hate spiders so much.

I did the conker thing and it seemed to help last year. The worst thing I ever did was hoover up a spider and put the hover outside.........in the FRONT garden over night! It was a dyson and I could see the dead spider but wasn't convinced it was dead. Luckily no one nicked it!

I also used to sweep them up with a broom and throw the broom outside too!

You're not the only one, they got a tarantula out at college once and i started having a panic attack, luckily i was hiding in the corner with others so managed to get distracted before it got too bad.

I'm glad that my dog will usually eat them! - it's worse when you see one in the shower

That raid spider spray seems to work well!

I get big hairy beasts coming through the vent holes in my house, one night there was 4 in a row. i sprayed some of that raid spider spray on and through the vent and it seemed to do the trick.. no more spiders, i spray it monthly

I've tried to avoid this thread but couldn't resist reading it, now my skin is crawling :)) i hate spiders! I can't go near them though so it becomes a problem when there is one in my room!
