One of my sows has been showing occasional signs of aggression towards her cage mate and has today bitten her ear.
I have cleaned the ear and she seems fine it's not deep or right through just a gash and i have been watching them since and they are not fighting.
The offender is the older of the two who i am suspicious may be pregnant, can this make them short tempered?.
If i seperate them temporarily will i have trouble putting them together again.
I really can't beleive this, I've never had any fighting with my boars!

i do believe that sows when pregnant can get a bit narked and like their own space.

is it a boar or sow that she bit? maybe put them apart for a bit, but next to eacohter where they can see and smell eachother, then try them together again once shes calmed down?

Its a fellow sow she bit I would never intentionally keep a boar and sow together.
She actually looks calm at the moment and the bitten one looks quite happy, had blood not been drawn i would be none the wiser.
I've given them lots of grass to nosh and am watching them closely

good idea, just keep an eye on them, they may have been just a bit grouchy, we al get like it! maybe PMT! hehe!

if she is pregnant it will be a reason for her being snappy maybe keep her on her own but next to the other one so they can see each other
if she isnt pregnant it maybe a case of finding another friend?

How long have they lived together?
Is the pig that got bitten younger and more lively? Therefore it could be that the older one gave her a nip as she was annoying her and show dominance. However, it is always a worry when you think they might not be getting on.

How are things are the moment?

They've been together about a month but are both relatively young, the biter is 16 weeks and the other a few weeks less (guesiing since she was left on my doorstep tiny).

They are equally active and greedy but have ample food and space and "fight" isn't really the right word since it seems the littler one just took the nip and carried on regardless.

Like i said i watched them closely the rest of that day and there's been no repeat performance so they are still together and I guess dominance has been established.

I've put down as one of those things/sibling rivalry- having two daughters I a\m no stranger to ridiculous squabblesrolleyes

I had this problem with my two Sows. Misha (also known as Hamish) was a complete cowbag to Bumble so after a while I got a Boar and had him neutered. This sorted it out but the tables turned on Misha and Rimmer and Bumble started to bully her. However at the same time I noticed Misha had developed a tooth problem so they were in fact hounding out of the pack.
Anyway now I now have bonded two other Sows in with Bossy Bumble and Rimmer . Bumble can be a right grotbag to Treacle and chatters her teeth like no tomorrow at times.
Now for Misha I adopted to lovely placid Sows and they live a happy life together with her and another neutered boar.
Boars tend to keep the girls inline a few friends of mine find this too with groups/pairs. So I now have two groups of four who get along great.
