Hello!

My 2 girls just gave birth (Honey last Saturday, Lumen Wednesday night) and now Lumen is very aggressive. I separated the mommies after Honey gave birth and the two families reside in separate cages. Lumen doesn't mind if I pick up the babies, but she seems much more skittish and attacked her sister and babies when I had them all out to play.

Is Lumen just being protective of her babies? Or is it normal for new mommies to be aggressive? Honey interacted well with Lumen's litter, but both families remain separated for now.

Baby pictures!

Lumen's. My room mate fell in love with her and decided to keep her and named her Gizmo :)

**Note!**

I didn't intentionally breed my girls - turns out they were pregnant when I got then in March and didn't know til about three weeks ago.

Some females are more protective and I am sure you did the right thing by separating them. You can introduce them together again once the babies are weaned.

I never had a protective mummy pig so I can't advises (I have 4 accidental litters to date.).

Hello

Some mothers do become aggressive in the last couple of weeks of pregnancy and throughout the nursing period. Most will rebond with their former cagemates if reintroduced correctly, if you can have their separate cages side by side so that they can interact in the meantime it will make the bonding easier.

Sometimes it can work before the babies are weaned, as Lumen is showing aggression I would leave them side by side for at least another week before trying again. If she still won't accept Honey or the babies then wiat until the babies are fully weaned and her hormones have settled more.
