hello all! i am a new guinea pig owner of a 1 year old boar and a baby boar (about a month maybe less? hes new so I'm not sure) but my 1 year old boar has recently been biting the divider of the cage and making chirps in an effort to get to the smaller boar? I'm not sure if this is a sign of aggression or if this is normal, i saw online that baby piggies and adult piggies do better as cagemates but i only recently got the baby 3 days ago...I'm worried if i was to have an introduction my older boar will hurt my younger boar, i would like to know if anyone has any idea why my boar may be doing this. is this normal? should i be worried? it seems as if the younger one isnt afraid of the older one since he will stand by the divider as the older one is pulling at it, he doesnt make any noises back and theres little to no clicking from the older one but alot of chirping and wheeking from my older boar. i tried to feed him thinking maybe hes hungry or needs attention but hes persistently pulling on the cage divider and shaking it....help?

Hi!

No, cage biting is not a sign of aggression; your adult boars simply wants to get in with the baby. Nothing sinister with that!

While acceptance of babies is not a given, as we have seen on here often enough, boars DO NOT attack or kill babies if you give them enough neutral space to bond in and avoid creating areas the baby can get cornered in. Most horror stories that make the rounds are handed on by people without personal experience or those without the first clue on how to conduct a proper intro or how to keep guinea pigs in the first place. :(

Please take the time to read our very detailed, illustrated and comprehensive step-by-step bonding guide, which takes you through all phases of the bonding process with their typical behaviours and dynamics, including the dominance phase which lasts on average 2 weeks after the intro. You won't find a better guide!
The guide also has special chapters with pictures and videos of boar and baby bondings.
