I have recently adopted 2 boars from my friend who has had to give them up due to going off to uni and her mum wont look after them while she is at uni so I am looking after them for her. x) I am sorta animal mad

Rex my guinea pig is a nice docile piggy who tolerates any other piggies.
the 2 pigs I adopted are called Mojo and Smudgy.
Mojo is a docile pig aswell and him and rex get along very well. however smudgy is a very aggressive pig who attacks any other pig or attempts to if he can see them.

Smudgy is always biting the sides of the cage to try and get the other pigs he can see to attack.
Smudgy attacked mojo, ripping out fur and bit his foot which got infected but if now better. I had them together in the run as my friend said they go together in the run.
However smudgy does not attack people he will just snuggle up on your lap and go to sleep but if he can smell other guinea pig on you he bites you.

Is there anyway I can calm him down?
Would getting him neutered help or getting a spayed female to put with him help?

Usually getting him neutered will not affect his behaviour so it won't improve chances of him going in with the other two boys.

Boar threesomes are really tricky and most often not successful so you'd probably be better either boar dating him at a local rescue to find someone he tolerates or getting him neutered and finding him a wife.

Very occassionally you get a pig that just doesn't like other pigs of any sort and htey are best housed alone but in hearing of other piggies for company.

Sure someone else will be along soon with more suggestions though.

There isnt a local guinea pig rescue near me :(
and the RSPCA dont have any guinea pigs in my area just rabbits, cats and dogs. I don't really wanna buy any more guinea pigs as My mum wont let me get any more animals until I move out

I might just have to make him a loner pig.

DAP (dog appeasing pheromone) is supposed to be good at helping calm agressive or nervy boars down. But in this case i would have to agree with the above. Threesomes are hard work and often dont work. I would keep the two calmer boars together and go either boar dating with your other or get him neutered to get him a girlfriend. I wouldnt specifically neuter to try and calm him down, i doubt it would make a different. Two pairs would work much better.

i have only this week had to split a threesome of boars up, so one is now on his own, and i was nt having as much aggressive behaviour as you have described, but could see it might happen. we have an inside c& c cage, with a grid dividing it, so they can still see each other, and this has worked very well, at the end of the day, you have to do what is best for the piggies, would this work for you?

I'm in Worcester city area in UK =]
There is a rescue centre up near redditch but I havent got travel to get there. well I have but I couldn't bring a guinea pig on my motorbike lol
I will have to see about these C&C cages since these cages I have them in are to small. Specially as winter is coming and the pigs wont be allowed outside as will be too cold and grass will always be wet.

Where are the best places to get the stuff to build them?
I did find a website which showed you how to make a cat proof one but I cant seem to find it now.
Ive got 2 kitties so it will need to be cat proof

These are the sort of grids you need:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/360368204697?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649

And to make the tray that goes inside:
http://www.theonestopplasticsshop.co.uk/correx-blue-122-m-x-122-m-4mm-p-4980.html

And instructions how to make them & examples:
http://www.guineapigcages.com/

Alternatively you can get the grids from Screwfix ref 43900.

You need a minimum 5 x 2 really for 2 boys. You can also make a lid with the grids to keep the kitties out :)
:)

thanks poppy'smum for the links, just worked out the costs including delivery and its cheaper than I paid for one of my indoor cages which have smaller area than the min requirements for one piggy.

Looks like I gotta get saving for the C&C cage build. New bed can wait. ^_^

Lol that's the way to go! I did mine recently the piggles love it & I used cable ties to fix it all together (it was a very odd shape to fit a round window though) cable ties are about £1.70 per 100 in Screwfix or try any other DIY shop.
You can make a dividing wall with more grids & house a single piggy in a 3 x 2 grid cage so they can look but not fight rolleyes
Good luck!

What bike do you have, i love bikes :)

x.

Aprilia Sportcity 125, its more of a moped bwhahahaha but i hate calling it a moped as the name reminds me of those things which sound like a wasp in a baked bean can.

But anywhoo, I am just gonna make him be a loner pig and build a C&C cage when I can afford to build one. Its not fun being jobless, on JSA and paying out £45 a week rent to your own mother :'(
