Hi, really hope someone can help
my daughter has had her pigs boars for two years bought at the same time and got on fine all this time.
Over the least few weeks one of them is not giving the other peace by constantly trying to hump him, I know that’s a dominance thing
The problem is recently Oscar has had enough and fighting back and when I say fighting I mean it, they are literally tearing tufts of fur of each other and rolling around fighting, them calm descends for an hour or so and it all flares up again, they are having stand offs constantly, Turbo the dominant one always starts it as Oscar is just happy eating, sleeping and running through his tunnels.

mid there something I can do, I don’t want to separate Unless I have to as I understand I can’t put them back together if I do

my daughter who is 10 is in tears at their behaviour and worried one is going to kill the other
All day long we hear rumblestrutting

they live in an outside cage with plenty of space and hideys so it’s not that

help please

Hi!

I would have your problem boar vet checked, in case it is a medical issue. Adult boars can occasionally suffer from sudden strong hormone spikes, but they last typically just a day or two. Adults of any gender can still fall out but it is comparatively rare. It is always upsetting, but guinea pigs can divorce, too!

Here are our tips for bonds in trouble. The first step is a two day trial separation with a subsequent reintroduction on neutral ground (the lawn will do fine at this time of the year. This will show wether your boys are still able and willing to live together once tempers and hormones have had a chance to settle down or whether the grudge/the rift is too big for them to continue as a pair. It comes closest to asking your piggies about their honest opinion. If there is a permanent rift, you you should know pretty quickly after letting them meet up again.
Here is the detailed advice: Bonds In Trouble

Thanks for the reply really appreciate it, I’ll try that and hopefully they will get along after this

sad to see the wee one so upset, the dominant one won’t let us near him also and starts chattering at us also

when I put them in the grass pen we have for them I need to get him to go into a box to be able to lift him, he already gave me a deep cut on two fingers couple
If weeks ago when I was putting him in the outdoor grass pen to leat him eat the grass and done that many time before with no issue

oscar is fine still happy for you to lift him as he knows where he is going
