Hi -- for those who were reading about our new guinea pigs in the Introduce Yourself forum -- turns out the family we got them from had them for only six months. (Can't believe the kids got tired of them so quickly. SMH at parents today.) W don't know where they got them or how small they were -- that would have been right at the beginning of the pandemic, so who knows how long (or short) a time they were at the store.

So, anyway, we've got six-plus-month-old boys -- is there anything in particular at this life stage we should be looking out for?

Hi! :)
I would say ask the family where the piggies came from, as that will give you a bit more insight into their age. If they came from a breeder/pet store, they were most likely very young when the family brought them home. Unless the family raised the pups from birth, they must have already been a few months old when adopted, etc. Therefore, your piglets are likely already somewhere around the 8-9 month mark (if they were brought home at a young age). Pictures would give more insight.
If your piggies are still somewhere in the 4-14 month range, they are considered teenagers; therefore, they are likely quite hormonal.
This guide might help a bit. :)
A Comprehensive Guide to Guinea Pig Boars

As has been mentioned, space is rally important for boars, especially during their teen months.

They’re not the first children to tire of pets and certainly won’t be the last.

Yep my Jasper was a Halloween present (with his prior cagemate) and the kids got bored too, happens far too much! 😡Think the parents did too considering the weight he’s piled on since he got here! 🙄

Your boys are gorgeous @Autonerd :D

Hi!

You have got teenagers right in the thickest of it.

Please take the time to read our boar guides (which contains a chapter on the various ages as well a chapter on boar dos and don'ts) and our detailed teenage guide. It contains information on how to avoid acute potential flashpoints as well.
