I hear the best age for breeding a female is 5-6 months. Currently my females are 3 months old.

I have 2 boars that will be 2 years old by the time the females are ready to breed.

I'm also getting a male boar currently 3 weeks and will be 3 months when the females are ready to breed.

Ideally, 5 months is best. But I dont have that. Which is better for the females breed with first time?

I would wait till the young boar is 5 months but the females would be 8 months then! and by parturition shed be 10months - which is the age the pelvic bones fuse!

whats best?

As this forum is pro rescue we can't discuss breeding. It's in the rules. We don't discuss showing either but all other aspects of cavy care is welcome. :)

Have you thought long and hard about breeding?!

We don't discuss it here but I just wanted to mention that there are a lot of piggies out there who need homes...just PLEASE be sure that you are 100% confident you will be able to find GREAT homes for all the young.

Any other guinea pig care questions will be welcomed :)
