Hi everyone,

I have been considering moving to fleece instead of woodshavings. My woodshavings go absolutely everywhere and Charlie is in my living room haha! So anyway I have a few quick questions:

1) Do they not eat the fleece? (I imagine Charlie would give it a good go)

2) Do they not pull the fleeces up (digging and what not) and then do their business underneath. (again I imagine Charlie would)

3) Does it smell more than using shavings?

Any advice would be much appreciated. Using a fleece just looks a lot warmer :D

1) i find my piggies don't really eat it but they chew on there flannels -_-

2) yes, but there are ways in wich when you change fleece you can tuck it in a certain way so they can't it just takes trial and error, i just try to fit my towel to my cage and then wrap the fleece around the towel, this makes it just one heavy fluffy blob they can't pull up and also i have newspaper underneath so if they do it doesn't really matter :))

3) it smells a little bit, i miss the smell of fresh wood chippings :( but you have to remember to poop scoop at least once a day, and change them every 3 maybe 4 at most days, by the third days my pigs are a little pongy, but not as bad as i imagine, when i first changed to fleece i think they were a little smellier but now not so bad, not sure if i've just got used to it or something o.0

If you need anymore advice/help, feel free to ask, i've been on fleece for nearly a month now and it's one of the best things i've done for my piggies, they love it :)

Thank-you for your reply. I am definately considering it but if I do I may move him to my room as I know visitors can sometimes be put off my pets, especially if they get a whiff of them haha. At the same time I know he likes to rummage so I may leave him one little tray of wood shavings! :D x

A Big pile of hay always gives them something to dive into too, i can't use wood shavings as one of my piggies has an allergy to them ! :)
My piggies are in a bedroom i like it like that 'cause its a lovely wake up call to see a little piggie pop its head up and say hello!

A piggy allergic to shavings?!? =O how can it be? :) Charlie meets his new friend for the first time tomorrow evening at 7pm! I'm going to clean his cage out just before (just in case all goes well) so I may change to fleece then :) x

I really recommend fleece. Shavings are not good for piggies and does make them sneeze not to mention the huge mess they cause. Piggies may chew on the fleece but if they have plenty of other things they soon stop. Fleece is warm and cosy for piggies. I put down a layer of towels and then two layers of fleece. I get my fleece from Primark as they are only three pounds each. You have to wash and dry the fleece three times before you can use it for piggies to make it absorbent. I pick up poops two or three times a day and change the fleece and towels every three days. It means a lot of washing but I really think it is worth it to make your piggy happy. It does not smell as long as you change it every three days. My girls are in a c and c cage so they cannot pull up the fleece. You can always weigh it down with tunnels and cabins your piggy has.
