Trouble... I have a problem originally I was thinking Marvin and Fred had mites, the scabs are still appearing on Fred along his rump and behind his ears its cuts... maybe bites not sure. I have not seen them fighting, Marvin is untouched I am thinking it's Marvin biting Fred but too what point should I leave them. How will I know if it is?! When do I separate if necessary what should I be watching out for?

What are the signs for a stressed piggie?!

hairloss and loss of apetite plus lethargy or fretfullness.

Do they scratch? Finlay used to get scabbies on his back and he scrated lots. Vet couldn't find anything wrong with him and every trip would stress him so much, he'd squeal, scratch (us), try to bite, etc. After Xeno450, he's been fine but it wasn't mites... the vet showed me the slide and there was nothing on it...

they could be allergic to their hay (or something in it). Have you considered ringworm?

I have no clue, I haven't even witnessed them scratching.. I've gave them one dose of Xeono, still got the second dose to apply when I touch the cut areas on Fred he yelps! I may try and get pictures!

Whats th esigns of Ringworms? I may just take them to the vet maybe he will know if it is bites or scratching... they have both been treated for fungal and soon mites once I put the second dose on.

Fred just looks miserable, well he does to me! He is eating, And moving around he never did move about much!

I would complete the Xeno first.

I'm nit sure about ringworm signs.

If he cries when you touch him, it's cos it's sore from the scratching or biting.

I'm going to finish the Xeono treatment but you have to wait between doses! What is the possibilitys it could just purely be Marvin biting him?

Unless we see the scabs, we can't tell.

Ringworm is a fungus infection, so you have been treating them for that.
However, it takes some time for the scabbing to stop.

Fighting boar bites are mainly to the mouth and ear area and to the rump at the back.

I have no idea.

I do have a question for boar experts though. If Joanne puts a divider down the middle of her cage will that affect her putting them back together again if the bites don't clear up?

She would have to re-introduce on neutral ground as the divide gives each pig it's own territory. If they are bites then the taking down of the divide(without re-introducing) could lead to a full on scrap

Joanne i know has witnessed the boys in a ball of hair but no wounds were inflicted on either.

I have to agree with Wiebke, my boars who i've separated because of fighting had wounds to their ears, noses & faces. Tait had no wounds, Haggis had a face full & a nick on his ear. The 2nd spat; Noah had a teeny wound to the bridge of his nose & one on his rump, Haggis had bites to his nostril area & a vertical slash to the side.

My girls, when hormonal had bites to their ears, rumps & inbetween their shoulders.
These were bite marks from whomever & NOT self inflicted from mites, however, i did treat all for mites.
The only pig i've ever had who's bitten himself because of mites is Magoo & his wounds were different. They were on each side of his rump, in a cluster & kind of resembled a graze, i also saw him nibbling & scratching incessantly.

What are the signs for a stressed piggie?!

Weight-loss, looking visibly miserable, hiding away, dis-interested in it's surrroundings, not moving where he wishes to go for fear of bumping into the other pig(s)

These spring immediately to mind. Subtle changes in behaviour; the fact you notice something different means something could be going on.

Hamish (who was stressed with Noah) stopped sitting in his favourite place altho' he did still come out for his veggies i could just tell he was acting differently.
I found him laid under his ramp (he never lays here), no wounds were inflicted by Noah but his behaviour wasn't acceptable to Hamish & when i weighed him he had lost weight. Since splitting him & Noah, Hamish has part-gained the weight he lost.

I agree with Mrs M i would first finish the dose of xeno as it takes a while for the treatment to work it doesn't work instantly.

Second i would keep a close eye on them and watch for any fights/biting.

The area is most probably very sore from the scratching/biting and that's why he is squeaking when you touch the area.

Have you checked his weight to see if he had lost any and have you noticed him hiding or off his food?

I hope that he feels better soon.

As for introducing new boars to one another or re-introducing boars there is only one rule; try it and see. No more no less.

Just to update, Fred seems to be healing, and there is no more marks! I am fairly certain it is not Marvin, I have been watching them and they both just seem to move out each others way! The second Fred chatters Marvin moves, the same applies to Marvin!

I did speak to the women I got Marvin from and she explained that she had treated Marvin for mites and the treatment protects them for roughly a year, which could explain why Marvin isn't really affected?

We haven't had any funny business no fighting or anything along these lines recently, Previously I had, had balls of fur but no chattering or aggresion just lunging and neither was hurt this hasn't happened in more than a week and it did only happen 4 times in 4 weeks! Both piggies come down for veggies in the morning, Fred does hide when eating his veggies but I have seen Marvin steeling them which is probably why Fred keeps a firm eye on him when munching, and only seen this on one occasion! They eat fairly close by two and both allow each other to eat!

Both seem able to go anywere they want, so I don't think they have fell out, and even though they have a huge run and there cage both seem to stay less than a stone throw away from one another.

I'm going to treat them the Xeon tomorrow as that is the 8th day, and continue to monitor them!

Fingers crossed! :)

As I have told you before, the scratches are down to itching and not to fights. Your two boys are behaving perfectly normally for two boars.

You would know when boars have fallen out seriously - there is no mistaking it, believe me!

I know Wiebke I just worry! Thankyou so much for the advice! I get awful paranoid because I 've never had piggies before rolleyes :red!

Thankfully I have the forum to chill me out! Sorry for being a pest :red!
