Hi everyone

We're planning on getting a pair of indoor piggies, and are trying to choose a cage.

We quite like the look of the Zoozone, what do you guys think of it? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI....090306&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT#ht_1531wt_906

Is it a bad idea to keep guinea pigs in a plastic-topped cage as opposed to a wire one? Do you think the Zoozone would have enough ventilation? Would we be better with the Ferplast 100 or 120? I do like the look of the Zoozone, but it strikes me there's probably a good reason that most people keep their piggies in wire/ mesh cages, not plastic...

my mum had this for her pig and i dont think its big enough for one fully grown pig, only my opinion :)

ps. they are very easy to clean, but i feel sorry for the pigs as they cant see out

I've had a few of the ZooZone cages come in to the rescue when people have brought their pigs in, I won't use them as the ventilation is very poor and the cage is too small for a pair.

I really like the design of the Ferplast 120 - easier to clean out than most cages and access to be able to pick up the pigs is much easier. It comes with a suitabe sized house too.

Agree with the others really. I keep my hamsters in Zoozones too, so they are wayyyy too small for piggies ;)

Thanks for the replies everyone!

I think we'll go for the Ferplast - hopefully we can get the 120, will be measuring up the space later. I didn't realise the pigs wouldn't be able to see out of the Zoozone - I thought they would have a better view without the bars being in the way ") ! Definitely do not want to keep our piggies in a stuffy cage - not good in warm weather, poor piggies.

We'll be getting a little indoor playpen so they can have time out of their cage everyday, plus a little run & shelter for the garden so they can graze in the nice weather.

my mum had a blue one, and the blue comes quite a long way up, they would have to stand on an igloo or something to see out.

:)

on of my rescue came to me in one similar and i HATE it! i feel like she is really secluded and cant realy interact with the others. I think it's a really bad design. The only way into it is the top which i hate. It scares her everytime i put my hand in. She must think my hand is a bird or something!

try zooplus.co.uk they have some great cages

i have that one and it's massive

Aww I felt claustrophobic looknig at that and the link has a piccy of a rabbit on it too! :{

It's so hard to know what suits when you get an animal for the first time or not had one for a while. I have only had my guineas for a few months and already I have upsized three times! Hehe xx

Thanks, zarapiggie, that's an excellent site, lots of great offers! 10% off first orders too!

i love those cages for my bunnies (if they need quarantine) and ive used it for the gerbils, but I agree with others, not suitable for piggies.
I have a couple of those ones from zooplus and i just lift the lids off and put them on the grass on cleaning out day (they make mini runs) x

Thanks again for the advice everyone!

We've ordered the Ferplast 120, as well as a run & lots of toys from zooplus. Can't wait for it all to arrive so we can go and buy our pigs!

I'm going to jump in now before you get bombarded with posts asking you not to buy but to rescue.

If you give your location there will hopefully be a local rescue that can be recommended. Lots will be on the guinea rehome website, though there are some that aren't that the members of the forum can recommend.

http://www.petsathome.com/shop/rabb...a-pig-and-dwarf-rabbit-cage-by-ferplast-15992 this is the cage i have for my jinnywigs. my flat isn't big enough fo a big cage, so this 2 tiered one gives them the space without taking up my whole living room! they find the ramp abit scary at first but i just covered it with a sock stuffed with hay, and now they're fine with it :) x
