I am thinking of moving my guinea pigs to the basement. It will give them a lot more space. I will also have more space to maneuver around them. The floors are cement, so I would keep them off of the floor because it's cold. The floors would be so much easier to clean. All of my hay is down there. I could have their floor time down there. My concern is the temperature. It seems to be between 65 and 68 down there. Is that too low? My upstairs ranges between 68-73. Thanks!

Assuming you’re meaning Fahrenheit?
I’m not sure what that would be in Celsius...

Aside from the temperature if they were still getting adequate care and attention, I wouldn’t see why not

Yes Fahrenheit. 😊. They definitely would. They would be near two windows, so they would still have natural light too. I could always get a small heater if necessary.

Yes we need to see pictures! You are like me, the pigs started in Rose’s bedroom, then moved to my office, and now I’m planning a room addition to the back of the house for them!

My only concern for the basement was temperature, but I don't think it gets below 65 Fahrenheit. They will be under two windows and off of the ground. I think it will work. I hate the room they are in now. It's small. It's at the front of the house, so the temperature changes a lot. I just need to figure out how to get an extra lock on it.

Would it not be possible to have them moved further away from the windows?

Do the windows have a draft, or are they open a lot?

Pardon the mess. The windows are high above them. The basement is not drafty at all like the room they are in now. I will have them off the ground too.

If you can set them on tables or something so they are not directly on the basement floor, that might work.
I wouldn't put them directly on the cold basement floor because floor temperature could be very icy.

My basement is fully finished with a bedroom and a bathroom, and the entire basement is thickly insulated with plenty of heating in the winter but basement floor is still very icy. I couldn't walk on the basement floor because it is extremely icy. I put rugs all over the basement floor.

My boy Finn and Lara stay on the first floor in the midst of living room, kitchen, dining room and bathroom. I feed them often so I need them to be near the kitchen refrigerator. I like to check on them throughout the day and play with them whenever I get a chance. I don't want to be away from them.

They will not be on the floor. I am going to put them on a stand. I agree the floor is cold.

So my husband doesn't want them in the basement. Lol. He would worry about them. It's so funny. When I first got them he was like whatever. Now he goes in the guinea pig room as much as I do. He loves to give them veggies and treats. So funny. We may just stick with a cramped guinea pig room upstairs 🙄😂.
