Hi Everyone.
How are you getting on with the bed o'linum? Mine are currently on fleece blankets with inco pads underneath and puppy pads undeath the inco, but I'm really struggling with a bad back and relapse of my M.E. symptoms. I was changing the bedding twice per week, but they are severely hormonal at the moment and digging up all the bedding and weeing and poohing on the bottom of the cage. I did a full clean yesterday and today had to start over again today,it looked like world war 3 with the state of the bedding I'm so completely exhausted and therefore need to re think my cage strategy. I'm not keen on using shavings and they soon smell, I don't like the smell of megazorb - the last bag had a strong chemical smell. I've been using the bed o'linum to line their litter tray, but can't really judge how well it would work on a whole cage. Also they are just tossing the litter tray around at the moement and there is hardly any weeing or poohing going on in there. How long are piggies hormonal far - my previous piggies were boys. There's lots of bum swaying going on, they are mounting each other and spraying over each other so looks like bath time soon. I feel so exhausted at the moment that at times I just feel like crying when I see the state of their cage. Also this is only from overnight. During the day they are in a C&C cage just lined with newspaper and hay, but this is not ideal full time as the tray only has low sides and they end up weeing over the sides. Anyway to get back to the point of my post, is bed o'linum worth the expense and could there be a problem with the small pieces getting stuck in eyes. Willow has a blocked tear duct and her eye runs alot so don't want to make further probs for her.
Sorry for moaning.
love Jude
ps I've also tried vet bed which they didn't dig at, but started to wee more up the edges of the cage and the wee just ran underneath the puppy pads that I'd placed underneath and I had a totally urine soaked cage floor. I try to keep the base wee free to prevent staining and odour

I found Bunny O' Lithium expensive and more Messy. I ended up going back too fleece, sadly finding the right bedding is a hard task! rolleyes.

Are you using disposable inco pads/puppy pads? what cage are you using?

Only reason why i ask is because i use fleece (and have done for about 10months now) and i use the washable inco pads. To make life easier for myself (as i have 3 huge cages to clean out) i did sew my fleece to my inco pads (so it's pretty much like a blanket) - i made the fleece/inco pad just slightly longer and wider than the cage base so they don't pee/poop on the cage base.

Before i did this though i did used to use bulldog clips to hold the fleece to the inco pads - while this worked well when it came to washing i found the locating of clips and removal very annoying.

When it comes to doing a full clean out i just roll the fleece/inco pad blanket up - shake it outside and pop the whole thing in my washing machine.

If you are using the disposable type pads then have you tried trapping the fleece material in between the cage top and plastic base?

Two of my boys when they were little used to live in a ferplast 120 cage, back then i used newspaper and towels under fleece - once laying my newspaper and towels i used to lay the fleece along the base then up the sides and trap the ends of the fleece (all the way round) in between the top cage and plastic base - there's absolutely no way your piggies would be able to rip the fleece up - plus you would eliminate any pee stains on the cage base as it would effectively be covered with fleece.

I hope my post makes sense :)
