Advice on home made hutch?

Hey guys was thinking of making McMac a new hutch. He seems ok in the current one but it is getting into a bit of a sorry state. The felt is all ripping, there is only one door, that is stiff mallethead (have to use the roof and that freaks McMac out looming over him and all) and there are stains and holes from Pebbles pre-neuter rolleyes

And I would like to make it 5ft too. It is only 4 ft and I feel it is too small for a second piggy.

So basically what sort of measurements do I need for a piggy cage. I feel the current one is quite tall for that of a pig and it's not that cozy for him. And of course 5 ft long.

I was thinking of using thick ply and then keeping it on top of the rabbit hutch. Would I still need to put short legs on the hutch for air flow?

Also how much would it cost do you think? Would it just be better to buy one? Thanks :)
 
5ft x 2ft is a nice size :-) I agree piggies dont need height enough to stand on top of cosies and popcorn is probably enough I dont think they need anything like the 2ft rabbits do!

Thick ply (or tongue and groove) treated well would be good :-) wilkos do outdoors paint that is pet safe and comes in nice colours and is cheap :-) I used half a tin to do 4 coats inside a 5ft x 2ft double tier huthc

normal double hutches dont have a an air gap between the hutches so I dont think you would as long as you treated the wood properly and sealed it between the hutches to swater could not get in

Buying and doing up a second hand one is probably the easiest thing then modding it to stand on top of the rabbit huthc .. hutches go for as little as 20 used!
 
Yeah I have got a tin of paint that I used on the rabbit hutch in the garage :) And I was hoping it would be ok without feet as I don't want it to rip the felt on the rabbit hutch lol

There is nothing in my area rolleyes

How much do you think it would cost to make one? I already have the paint. Would just need wood, hinges, locks, felt, and wire...

oh and maybe screws lol
