Hi, looking for advice (I'm Based in UK). I've been guinea pig owner for a while no but never had eye issue with my piggies before. I've took my piggy to the vets on Monday. Where we were given eye drops and pain relief. It's been five days now. Took him back for a follow up appointment. Where I was told he needs it removing. She had given me a quote of £545. I know that guinea pigs don't cope well with too much trauma. I'm unsure if he would make it. He's two an half years old weighing 1kg and healthy other that his eye. Thank you for taking the time to read this.

What is actually wrong with his eye?
How guinea pig experienced is your vet?
While any surgery carries risks, a surgery on an otherwise healthy piggy with a good knowledgeable vet is as safe as it is going to be. There are a few piggies on the forum who have had to have eye surgery and many many more who have had to have other surgeries at much older ages and had all coped well.

An infection they have put it down to. Here's a picture of his eye

They are the best vets locally to where we live. They have two vet surgeries within within seven miles

Ouch poor boy. I agree with what @Piggies&buns has said and again I would recommend taking him to a guinea pig savvy vet as although they may be a good vet guinea pigs are classed as ‘exotic’ animals so it would be worth getting him seen by someone who has experience of guineas and performing eye surgeries! Hope he’s ok!
