Hello.

Opinions please.
I currently have my indoor piggies on a bed of newspaper, thick layer of wood shavings and hay.

So one of my piggies seems to have an occasional wheeze and I was wondering if I should change the bedding. If so what's best? I have read on here about fleece liners but dont know how to use them. Do they need daily changes? X

I use vet bed. It is used by vets hence the name. It is hypoallergenic so will not cause any allergies. I have a layer of towels then vet bed. I remove poops three times a day and wash it all every three days. My piggies love it.

Would just changing it one time not stress them out do you just wash it normally?

You do need to keep ontop of the poo removal on vetbed or fleece which is more work than somepeople have time for. There are some othrr options which can last a week with less intervention. I use aubiose in some of my cages which looks simular to shavings but its made from hemp and it isnt dusty as it is in chunks. Then you have things like ecobed and fitch.

Do you mean would changing the bedding so frequently stress them out? If that's what you mean, I don't think so. That's not something I have experienced with my piggies. Cleaning out and fresh bedding seems to excite them and make them popcorn. They are not like hamsters who get stressed when their habitat is altered.

I've just changed from wood shavings to fleece for the same reasons as you although I would add that with wood shavings going everywhere I had another motive!

I splashed out on 2 fleeces from CandEcosies which are great. Picking up poos is far easier with fleece as they are on the surface and don't get lost in the shavings and I don't find it any bother as their home has no roof. They have a loft area which is lined with newspaper and lots of hay.

I wash the fleece every 3 or 4 days inside a duvet cover (to save the machine from hay) at 60.

The other good thing about fleece is that i noticed calcium rich wee so have altered my pig's diet. I don't know how long it would have taken to notice it if they had carried on weeing on wood shavings.

You wash it at 60 degrees with no fabric conditioner. It does not stress them having it changed. It makes my gang happy!

They love a clean cage. I meant stressing out by suddenly changing their bedding type.

I have 3 of mine on fleece which they love, my 2 long haired ones which came from an outside hutch environment didn't seem to like fleece and basically just trashed it they basically toilet wherever as opposed to my other boys who use a tray a lot. They are on shaving s which they like but again make a terrible mess kicking it everywhere. Ordered some Fitch on Monday I'm hoping I may get on better with that. will let you know.

i have fleece and litter trays with finacard and hay .It can be hard work keeping up with the washing but as my cages are big bedding not an option.

I only got Mrs Simpson yesterday and she was on wood shavings which I hate so tried her on fleece today and she gave me her first popcorn when I put her on it.
